As this year's homecoming parade marshall, Mr. Bruell fired his six-shooter in the air, the 1979-1980 school year began! In the spirit of the old west, the Braves began school with Pep, bewilderment, enthusiasm, and non-stop determination toward a golden year. Registration was the first step toward discoveries, more than where the buffaloes roamed. At Bremen, the Braves wrapped their Indian blankets about them and pointed out new paths: some that would succeed and some that would fail, but all that would be part of the 1979-80 year. to conquer the Southwest. The people you're most likely to meet at Bremen are as different as those who traveled West to find gold, homes, and excitement. The girls who went West to let their hair down, discovered more than a casual glance from the rouged prospectors of Sacramento. Bremenites still express the joy of victory over challenge. The brave is also one who accepts the test of Competition with a willing spirit and open mouth. Though some still see school as a prison , others continue to check out the facts at Bremen and study the possibilities. I i ia Sigi s ... Are Brwe Wu s Early communication of Western Indians were done through hand signs and sand drawings. The Braves of Bremen use more than their hands to express their thoughts and ideas. Some have discovered the written word, while others have raised their voices. The impetuious bucks may raise their fists in mighty fashion, yet the maidens took to their skill of design and calculated measure to succeed. While some Bremen students measure success by getting their teeth into it, others contemplate from where they have come and to where they are going. 7 Cactus- Cut Ups The stars of a western sky were some of this year's Homecoming decorations, while a posse of well chosen cowpokes set up the Ho-down . .. Hypnotic cow punching and home on ,he ran8e un,il lonesome cowboy 8 finds a gal to call his own and bare” his all. 9 the braves were on the run the bugler sounded the call and the battle of strength began. As the calvalry approached TALISMAN- DECS AND PARADES . . . Were all part of one of the most successful Homecomings at Bremen. A week of events and creations that finished with the class of 1980 capturing the overall talisman, tug-o-war, and totem trophies, plus the class color and spirit jug, not to mention tieing with the class of '81 for the obstacle course. The juniors fought all comers and were victorious in hall decs, class cheer, float and tieing for honors in obstacle course. The freshman of '83 showed their colors as they won egg toss and finished a close match to the seniors while the sophomores made the tug-off a real contest losing by inches. Winning clubs were B-club for the overall, egg toss, and talisman- Choir for the obstacle course- and publications for Hall Decs. 6i ce Upci a Time in Tlje West Six seniors girls were chosen to rule over the Homecoming festivities. As their rangier escorts saw them change from ranch hands to radiant. The Queen of the ladies was announced as Judy Krause, her able forewomen were Lori Henschel, Laurie Reeks, Lynn Maloney, Gail Lon-kar, and Sebrina Haynesworth. As the Western band played with an Eastern flavor, the record crowd danced through the night. The dance brought to a close, the most successful Homecoming ever held at Bremen. WANTED: 16 Asst. The Roger Kellogg Band played a variety of music and entertained the couples until midnight. King Scott Manionni and Queen Jill Provancal reigned over the evening of dining and dancing. Scott and Jill's court consisted of Glenn Smith and Diane Davis, Jim Duckwall and Lori Henschel, Ray Nagel and Debbie Milen, Carey Reddick and Donna Lindsey, Jim McHale and Patty Gierman. King Scott Mannioni and Queen Jill Provancal Glen Miller and Diane Davis This year's Winter Concert was a great success. Featured soloists from the choral section were; Leonard Spicer, concert choir, Linda McGuire, girls chorus and Andre Jones and Ann Sommers general chorus. The band was highlighted by a performance of a Jazz ensemble directed by Jim Kreuz The Presidential Classroom The Presidential Classroom for Young Americans was attended this year by Toni Milianta and Stephanie Wisch; Mary MacLean and Sharon Snyders. They experienced a week of intense study and exposure to the American Government and the Nation's Capitol. My week in Washington D.C. included many speakers and tours. The tours included the capitol building, Smithsonian Institute, Kennedy Center, Museums, libraries, and various other points of interest. It was a unique experience from which I greatly benefitted. February 2nd-9th The Presidential Classroom was an educational experience. I toured Washington D.C. along with 400 other students from the United States. The city itself was ar exciting place, filled with many wonders. The people were different than myself in every way, but I still enjoyed exchanging ideas with them. I would gladly visit Washington D.C. again. 28 The Presidental Classroom was a great experience both socially and academically. The week was spent living in a new and different situation. After sharing a week of new experiences with people you never met before, you get to know them and their personalities. You're bombarded with ideas and opinions of your peers concerning America and its problems, as well as with the opinions of leaders themselves. The week allowed me to absorb ideas and opinions and to form my own conclusions concerning it's government and it's people. February 9th-16th My trip to Washington D.C. was one of my best and most interesting experiences. My week was spent in attending 16 different seminars, a debate on nuclear power, and touring the city. We went to Capitol Hill, the House and Senate Chambers, Senators Percys and Stevensons offices, and I met Congressman Der-winski. We spent time at the Smithsonian Institute, visited the famous monuments and toured the White House. I also attended the theater in the Kennedy Center. The best part was meeting the other 413 students from the U.S. and some foreign countries. af nu { h« ••not. i 29 What Are Little Boys Made Of? The theme of this year's Turnabout Dance was, What Are Little Boys Made Of? . The couples danced to the music of Bushwack. The end of a perfect evening was highlighted by the crowning of the Turn about King Don Kramer. Don's court consists of Mike Duggan, Stanley Latting, Scott Man-nioni and Stan Strutz. 30 31 This year's District 228 Music Festival was held on March 27 at Bremen High School. The guest band director was Mr. Paul Lavalle. Mr. Lavalle is the director of the McDonald's All American High School Band and organized several radio programs. Mr. Lavalle also presented a music clinic for members of the band. The guest choir director was Mr. Francis Gregory. Mr. Gregory produces and directs An Hour of Good News over WTTW channel 11. The narrator for the evening was Tom McCarey. Tom is a senior at Bremen High School. The festival was a unique and rewarding experience for all of the participants. The conductors gave the members a feeling of pride and encouragement. Music Festival Star Spangled Banner............. 'Class' is the word for this year's Varsity Squad. Nothing seemed to come easy, we had to fight for everything. This has to be the most poised team I've ever had. More than one team thought they had us only to be stunned by our ability to come back and take the victory away from them. I think the Varsity rather enjoyed the drama of snatching victory from the jaws of defeat. 80 m - 1980 saw the start of something new-Freshman Softball. The volunteer coaching of Cindy Crawford brought this new level into being. How do you spell Bremen Softball? S-U-C-C-E-S-S. Led by 3-time All Conference outfielder Bob Daggy and Co-Captains Ron Banovich and Bob Hancock, the Braves fooled all who predicted them for 4th in Conference. Eight players were chosen for SICA East All Conference - Bob Daggy, Ron Banovich (outfielders) Stan Strutz (pitcher) Rich Winfield (catcher) Lawson Honey-sucker, Bob Hancock, John Kramer, Jim Donato (infielders) This team exceeded its pra-season forecasts by beating a fine Oak Forest team for the SICA East Championship. I feel we received some fine individual performances from both seniors and juniors that were hard to predict at the start of the season. We tied a school record for number of wins in a season and winning our second SICA East Championship is a great achievement for these young men. Overall our season must be considered one of the finest ever at Bremen. Snorkeling at Coki Beach EASTER VACATION Cynthia A. Anderson Kathleen Ardizzone The class of 1980 has shown tremendous class spirit throughout their four years at Bremen. With everyone involved, the senior class won the overall class trophy for two consecutive years. During their senior year they won all of the events during Homecoming Week with the exception of two events. Their rousing spirit and enthusiasm has been carried on through their four years. It has been said the Senior Class was one of, if not THE best class in the history of Bremen. J.K. CLASS OFFICERS above: kneeling Laura Dahl-man sec.
