The musical set all time records in attendance and set the tone for a full and successful year in drama. 21 ASSEMBLIES One of the Students favorite school activity is attending assemblies and the year 1976-1977 has been a big year for them. We have had several Pep assemblies this year and found fighting for class spirit can be very tiring. Juniors won class spirit this year. Each year assemblies are held introducing Homecoming court, this year assemblies were held introducing Turnabout court and Prom court. The Navy and Air Force bands came to play for us also. Several students couldn't resist dancing to the beat of their music. Any Number Can Die was an excellent presentation by the Thespians, about a Radio Show of yesteryear. One of the students favorite assemblies of the year was the Coca-Cola presentation on advertising. Slides were shown showing how commercials and advertisements are made. Our annual Honors Assembly once again found Bremen students constantly striving to make Bremen a Better place to learn. WINTER CONCERT This year's Winter Concert ranged from Prayer from Hansel and Gretel performed by Girl's Chorus, to Todd Carlson's own arrangement of Love Will Keep us together , played by the Stage Band. The audience widely received all of the numbers performed. The featured soloists were Sandy Craig, Nicki Cox from the chorus, and Brian Paschal, Debbie Kolacinski, Mark Hollingsworth, and Todd Carlson from the band. The Winter concert was a very large success. WINTER CARNIVAL This year's Winter Carnival was an afternoon full of fun and excitement. Many clubs participated and sponsored different types of games. There were dart games, a fonzie game, win-a-fish, and bozo buckets to name a few. In the line of refreshments there were hot dogs, snow cones, popcorn, along with giant doughnuts and freshly baked goods. There also was a haunted house in which only the bravest dared to enter. The afternoon proved to be an enjoyable affair for all. 26 Children's production... Wind In The Willows This was the first year that Bremen Thespians presented a children's play. The color and costumes added much to the presentation which was performed in room 111. The story of Toad Hall and the fight to regain it by Toad and his friends, was enjoyed by those who attended either of the two performance nights. 28 DRAMATIS PERSONAE Mr. Toad ..........Charlie Collins Badger ..................AlSchmidt Mole ...............Chuck Walters Rat ............. The spring play, OUR TOWN, brought light drama to the Bremen stage. With essentially no scenery, the cast relied on vivid characters to hold the interest of the audience. OUR TOWN portrays life in a small town and is the story of Emily and George-next door neighbors who grow up, fall in love, and eventually marry. This simple story changes in the third act which takes place on the lonely hilltop of the graveyard. The audience discovers that Emily has died in childbirth, and through her pain and final acceptance of death, it is shown how precious life is, and of how often it is taken for granted. Nicki Cox, Karen Lindberg, Chris Moskaluk Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow, this year's Spring Concert, was the fabulous end of a very exciting choral year. Otis Branch, Director, exclaimed, This is the most exciting program I've ever done at Bremen in terms of diversity of talent. The concert featured present student and alumni soloists, and concluded with several selections from the hit Broadway musical The Wiz . Soloists were Karen Lindberg, Michael Baker, Darlene Dukes, Mark Brandon, Tyronr Johnson, Jean Richardson and Nicki Cox. Alumni included Derrick Bell, John Dubs, Sue Hofflander, Carolyn Hudson, Dawn Matros Jeffries, Roen Isham, Robin Anderson, Aaron Johnson, and Richard Matros. This year's Band Concert was widely received by everyone. It was one of the best performances ever presented by the Bremen Band. Senior, Todd Carlson conducted the band in his own arrangement of Super-star , and Mark Porter and the French Horns were featured in the American Overture for Band . These were some of the more outstanding parts of the program. A guest appearance was also made by Rapid Transit, to round out a concert of familiar tunes and exciting rhythumn. Two outstanding members of the band were Bryan Paschal, who received the John Phillip Sousa Award, and Todd Carlson, on whom was bestowed the honor of Outstanding Senior Musician, and the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award. 40 COULD IT BE MAGIC This years Prom was held at the House of Lynwood in Lynwood, Illinois. This impressive record is proof of the hard work and effort contributed by every member of the team. This year's record was 7 wins - 3 losses. The team was ably led by their Co-Captains Mike Caddick and Jim Gustafson. Mike Caddick ran a very impressive senior year, as he set a new course record for Bremen, 15 min., 55 sec., and was selected to the Ali-Con-frence team. The Bremen Sophomore Cross Country Team also has a history of which they can be proud, with a four year record of 37 wins - 7 losses - 1 tie. This year they compiled a record of 9 wins - 1 loss. The Sophomore Team Captain was Fred Hofer, and Brother Billy Vaughn was chosen for the All-Conference team. This fine Sophomore team added three 1st place and one 3rd place trophy to Bremen's Trophy Case this year. AM THOUSAND MILE CLUB: (STANDING, LEFT TO RIGHT) Scott Crosby, Mike Haley, Ken Keskel. Perhaps the most exciting game occurred between the Braves and the Eagles of Sandburg. Against the oddsmakers, Bre-man snared the Eagles 30-22. Yet, a bonus was received in the mail when the line refs and game referees wrote a special commendation for the display of outstanding sportsmanship during the game. The letter was the first written by the referees in their long history of ref-fing high school football. The season finished with Bremen in second place in the conference. All conference players included: Tony Banks, Mike Hunt, Jerome Johnson, Pat Renfrow, and Scott Rollins. All area players were: Hunt, Rollins, and Johnson. Marty Strutz was honorable mention all conference. But the greater treat was in store for J. J. Johnson who was voted All State. in many activities including bake sales, homecoming parade and candy sales. They showed tremendous class spirit on class color day and can always be found at the pep assemblies, football and basketball games cheering their teams on. This spirit is what should distinguish this class from the others as they continue through their next three years.
