Miss Patti McHugh, our 1969 Homecoming Queen, (above right) reigned over all the activities. Patti was joined by her court (above left - L-R Kay Hallahan; Ruth Bucek; Francie Hoeltgen, the 1968 Homecoming Queen; Queen Patti McHugh; Debbie Jager; Sally Chaney.) to review the First Place Science Club Float (below left), and the First Place Sophomore Gass Float, (below right) 10 11 To Get Where You Are Today Hippies Rise Again The 1968 Queen, Mrs. Hilliard, and King, Mr. Kulovitz prepare themselves for the crowning. The Hippies rose again as Mrs. Brozenec, Mr. Bordenave, Mrs. Gerhart, Mr. Clark, Mr. Falcon, Mr. Rogena, Miss Knox, Mr. Kinsella, Mrs. Van der Meer, and Mrs. Korhonen all sought for the 1969 Hippie King and Queen title. Excitement reigned as Miss Knox and Mr. Falcon were named the Hippiest Hippies at the dance. It is because of these students and others like them, that Bremen’s plays are such a tremendous success. Through hard work and diligence, Troupers have presented a fantastic year of comedies. I wonder if it matters if I’m minus an eye? 24 With A Moment To Relax Hmm.that feels good. Will it help if 1 go over my lines again? A little consultation seems to be in need. Pep Club Honors Guys at annual turnabout Turnabout gives the girl a chance to ask that special guy to be her date for the evening. This year’s Turnabout was held in the land of Sugar and Spice, while gingerbread men enhanced the senses and lollipops and gumdrops were provided for a perfectly charming evening. Sugar n' Spice Variety Show This year’s variety show proved to be worthy of the many hours of work that was put into it. Paul Connelly, the chairman, did an excellent job in directing the variety •show, entitled, The Sign of the Times. It truly showed an effort put forth not only by Paul, but also by the entire student body. Though many students tried out, only a selected few were chosen for the show. 1970 Sign of the Times Legends Of Love Denise Coke, 1970 Prom Queen is being crowned by Roberta Soike the 1969 Prom Queen as Phil Vasquez looks on. While some couples milled around the coronation throne anticipating the crowning of the Queen, others danced by the fountain in the Romeo and Juliet Room .. . From her elevated throne amid the white pillars. Prom Queen, Denise Coke, surveyed the evening’s events ... Happiness was a May night in the “Legends of Love.” Prom sure makes ordinary guys gentlemen. Excitement begins when you arrive. Student Council put on the most fantastic Variety Show of Bremen’s History. The Council has helped to collect money for the March of Dimes, decorated the school for Christmas, sponsored Council Week, recognition day, and the Get Acquainted Dance, and has abolished the Bremen Dress Code. Instead we should admire those who venture into a community, and to there do the work that most needs to be done and is probably most difficult — the work done with people and their problems. Of such respected people, those who do the job well are indeed rare. One such person is John A. Renfro, principal of Bremen Community High School. Mr. Renfro came to Bremen in 1963 as a Social Studies instructor and Head Basketball coach. In 1965 he was named Dean of Boys and in 1966 was appointed Assistant Principal. Yet we, the Bremen students, know Mr. Renfro as the man to see with problems, questions, - even gripes - each of which he listens to with equal interest. He’s the man who sees us with fairness, understanding and attention to the best interests of all concerned, and always with the authority which has made him capable and respected among all who know him. The ARROW staff of 1969—1970 thinks it especially fitting that this student publication be dedicated to a man of this stature, Mr. John A. Renfro. 78 Honors Mr. John A. Renfro 79 Mr. John A. There were many times when the spirit was hard to find, but our teams were never let down. Someone was always ihefe-backing the Braves. It was not always easy, though. Many hours of hard work and practice could only bring out the results they did. Ninth period and many hours before games were spent running through the cheers and setting up new routines, many of which were first introduced at camp. Extra curricular activities which helped the cheerleaders buy uniforms and pay for camp were: Gym suit washes, the sale of pennants, sponsoring pep busses, and the annual Cheerleaders’ Pow Wow. bottom: Sandy Woroszylo top: Patti McHugh LEFT TO RIGHT: Jeanne Figliulo, Barbara Porter, Gretchen Lussow, Patti McHugh, Margaret Gray, Celeste Figliulo, Sandy Woroszylo. Remember the long ago feeling of panic as we entered these doors for the first time? We soon showed we could overcome that as we won “Best Spirit” our Sophomore year. As Juniors, we worked to make “Camelot” Bremen’s best prom. And now as Seniors the games, classes, meetings at the Tree, and friends we’ve made will remain forever a part of the Super 70’s. The Class of '71 has taken another step toward the future. Being upperclassmen now, they are working hard on college plans. This year the distribution of class rings brought excitement to every Junior. The Juniors have had a car wash, a bake sale, and a pow-wow. This year’s Prom was one never to be forgotten. The theme was “Legends of Love’’ and the dance was held on May 15, at Silver Lake Country Club. The Class of 1971 will be sure to continue toward success as they have in the past.
