With the passing of the bond issue? With the start of construction? While these were important milestones in the school's pro- gress, more vital were the hopes and dreams of a small group of your fellow citizens, beginning as tar back as l948. ln' December of that year, Fred Goebel, our township treasurer, called a meeting of grade school board of education members and principals, to consider what might be done for our high school students. This group interested others in working for the annexation of this district to Thornton. Although this move failed in June 1950, the group did not give up. In July of that same year, an election to organize a high school dis- trict of our own was successful, and the next month the first school board was elected. Yes, bond issues and building plans were essential to this school, but back of them were the hopes and dreams that today have come to full reality. 5 it Q52
