Numerous influences combine to mold an individual student and many of these influences can be found in a school, such as Breckinridge. Wi J J Q2 5 She Reflects Our Ideals At every game, at every P.T.A., at every school function, one is always aware of the presence of this single, dedicated individual. She is devoted to the teaching profession and has done much to improve the curriculum of- fered here at Breckinridge. Because of this devotion to the teaching profession, because of her constant, sympathetic ear, because of her never-fading smile and optomism, because of her unabounding support and understanding, and, most of all, because of her mammoth contribution to the school as a whole, we do dedicate this 1966 BRIGADIER to Mrs. Nancy M. Winn. Students Reflect . . . Gayle Farmer, the Snow Queen representative from Breckinriclge, ably reflected the image of her school in the Christmas Parade. Here, one can see her riding one of the floats as a Princess for the occasion. 8 The violin group found time in the three following at just such a practice: Steve li, Cathy Webb, and Butch Wallace. z Mr. Felty muses as he patiently waits for the band to get ready to march in the Christmas parade. This year the band performed for a number of occasions, such as at the half-time of the Shrine Bowl game. Many Talents . . schedules to get in a practice during second period. Here, one can see the Cheatwood, Marshawilhelm, Linda Bowman, Barry Overstreet, Betsy Zeo- neg Teachers and Students Alike Reflect Responsibility and Skill . . The students who work in the library give up one period, a study period, in order to help Mrs. Mundy with the extra duties of checking in books, shelving them accurately, and checking on individuals who owe fines. This group of stu- dents is made up of the following: B. Burford, M. Fowler, P. Karides, W. Creasy, S. Shonhor, L. Lilly, B. Carico Cat deskl, C. Statome, P. Hill, A. McLendon, A. Cullop, S. Vaughn, L. Bower lO A big attraction in Miss Thompson's class was the visitor, Resusci Anne . Resusci was the dummy used for practice in artificial resusci- tation. At first sight, she gives people quite a start with her realistic appearanceg however, Theresa Huffman seems to have managed to overcome her fright as she is seen administer- ing artificial resuscitation to the 1ady. ll Mrs. Mundy, librarian, is most helpful in ac- commodating teachers with professional materi- al. Here, she is seen showing Mrs. Bell a book on reading instruction. X .L51-- XX X..f N. Its members had a number of projects such as selling candy, student directories, composition books, and Christmas bows made by the children. With the profits, the organization took care of many kindnesses in the name of the school. For example, remembrances were always sent to those who were sick for extended times or to those who had suffered the loss of a loved one. At Christmas, the organization collected enough food for twenty Christmas baskets to be sent to needy families. At mid-term, the organization sponsored a tea for the teachers. Aside from the various projects, the S.C.A. ably represented the school in the fall at the District S.C.A. convention. There, Gary Overfelt, our local district representative, participated in introducing the speaker. Raymond Hardman also participated in the convention by leading a discussion group. The Future Teachers of America is designed to give students a better understanding of teaching andteaching skills. Points can be earned by helping teachers with special duties, read- ing the NEA JOURNAL, and other related material. Although the club had a small membership this year, it has been quite active, The club representative, Debbie Perdue, attended an F.T.A. convention at Patrick Henry in December. The club decorated the S8zW Cafeteria for the annual F.T.A. dinner in February and did a beautification project in the spring. 48 Richard Campbell and Julie Blair Cat deskj draw layouts, while Patricia Thompson, art editor, and Eric Eanes work on an illustration. CAll of the art work exhibited in the yearbook is accredited to Patricia Thompsonb. Mark Fowler, business man- ager, struggles with the subscriptions. Nancy Bryan, Editor-in-Chief, and Sue Perigen, Associate Ed- itor, are seen in their usual capacity--searching in the closet for material. This year both have discovered that the planning and organization of a yearbook is more complicated than an- ticipation had allowed. 1966 Brigadier Staff A Strives to Reflect True Pictureof Breckinridge E it - Ss!
