Class History Way back in 1950, we arrived on the scene at Breckenridge High School with nineteen members. For our class officers we CDOBB Billie Hall as President, Esther Bell as Vice-President, Peggy O'Dell as Treasurer, and Jeanne Murray as Reporter. We were disappointed for we weren't initiated. The candidates for the King and Queen of the Carnival were Jeanne Murray and Billie Hall. As Sophomores, we were much more refined and felt that we were really a part of B.H.S. One of the highlights of that year was the presentatlonof a play entitled 'The Cannibal Queen' underthe direction of our sponsor, Miss Sarah Burton. We gained four new students that year. They were Margaret McCorkendale, Junior Spaulding, John Lewis, and Charles Wheelbarger. For our class officers we chose Bill Hogan as President, Charles Wheelbarger as Vice-President, JeanneMurray as Treasurer, and Esther B011 as Reporter. That year our candidates, Nigel Spidle and Jackie Hughes, were crowned King and Queen at the Carnival. Our attendant for Homecoming was Esther Bell. For our class officers our Junior year, we elected Jackie Hughes as President, Esther Bell as Vice-President, Betty Mallett as Treas- urer, and Mrs. S.F. Bonney as Sponsor. That year we slaved away so that we might go with the Seniors on a trip to Eureka Springs, Arkansas, and Rockaway Beach, Missouri. We gained three new students, Harold Newton, Ronald Prewltt, and Betty Mallett, increasing our number to twenty-four. We presented a play, 'Finders Creepersn, which was a great success. Betty Mallett was crowned Homecoming Queen and our float won first place. Margaret McCorkendale entered in the county oratorical contest. Delores Pratt was a representative to Girls' State from Breckenridge. Billie Hall and Bill Hogan represented B.H.S. At Boys' State. August 31 we began our final year in Breckenridge High as dignified Seniors faced with many new and important responsibilities. Gravely we realized this was to be our last year together at the games, in classes, lunchroom, play cast and study hall. We chose Dale Phillips as President, Delores Pratt as Vice-President, John Lewis as Treasurer, and Mr. Hugh Welch as Sponsor. One of the hilarious events of the year was the Senior Walk-Out. Homecoming attendant was Esther Bell and our fl at won second in the Homecoming parade. Since it was the responsibillty of the seniors to plan and produce this book, we chose our yearbook staff and started to work on 'The Echon, a book of our memories we shall cherish always. Our boys and girls did a fine job in athletics, they may have been the players, the cheerleaders, member of the band, or just fans. Two of our girls have been cheerleaders for three consecutive years and one for two consecutive years. Dale Phillips placed third in the county oratorical contest. Dale was also chosen as an all-star football end in the conference, Donnie Etherton and Billie Hall were chosen as co-captains of the rootball and basket- ball teams. Betty Hallett represented our school in the D.A.R. Good Citixenshiprcontest. We also have had several honor students through- out our high school career. Five members of our class have ggne to school together for twelve years. Those five were Billie Hall, onnie Etherton, Jeanne Murray, Peggy O'Del and Patric a A ams- As commencement time draws near, we would like to say 'Good-bye to dear old Breckenridge High. -A 0 I my of P1 X-, - - s I .a xv.
