H. Guinn, the present librarian, teak charge, organizing sooording to approved methods. Growing stesdily, it new has ever tour thousand books. One hundred at which were added this year. In addition to books, the library has many other aids for the student including the vertical file, an alpha- betioslly arranged clipping and pamphlet oolleotiong the earn catalogue, in index to the library, the Readers' Guide, an index to current and old magszinesg and subscriptions to forty magazines and twe newspapers. 9 In 1936, the library was awarded e Gertifieete of Merit by the Texas Centennial Expositien Commissien for having one hundred books in the Texas eelleetlnn. Z ,- amf,1g,f5f,n,g.f,e'.qwsgrngnf lV7u5n: HCTIVITIES The school year of '36-'37 has been a very active and interesting one for the members of the Buckaroo Band, the largest and best known organization of Breckenridge High School, and one of the most oompe tanto Their year began July 3, when they played for the Stamfor Reunion and took part in the parade. They had the honor of playing at the Centennial in Dallas on Breckenridge Day, and, in addition, gave a concert in the Band Bowl. They played for every scheduled football game in and out of town and gave novelty stunts between halves. They were awarded a cash prize for being the best band in the parade at the Ybu g County Fair. The band was a feature of the Santa Claus Parade in the Christmas season. They gave a performance before the Clder Boys' Con- ference. Visiting the Tat Stock Show, March 19, they gave a concert in front of the Coliseum. Q ' 5 I . , 11 IQ , , ' .. Betty Helllnghausen, elected in a contest sponsored by the music department, is the first Band Sweetheart of B. H. S. The band attended the West Texas band contest in Lubbock, May 1 and 2. L bell lyre, a sousaphone, and a pair of cymbals are new additions. During the summer months the Buckaroo Band is used as the city band, and usually gives a concert once a week. During the year the high school orchestra has rendered many pleasing performances at various places, serving as both local and out-of-town entertainment. They have played several times for both junior and senior high assemblies. In the high school Style Show, the Christmas Cantata, and the Fall Music Review, the orchestra was an outstanding feature. it various times during the year, the organization has furnished music for the Fine Arts tea, Wednesday Study Club Christmas tea, the Fine Arts and Anna Frank Artist Club luncheon, the Lions Club, the H rchants' banquet, the Older Boys Cen- ferenoe, Boy Scouts' banquet at Brownwood, the Press Club banquet and the Oil Belt Teachers' Association at Ranger, and was also an important factor in the Liens Club minstrel. The Breckenridge high School girls' Glee Club has forty-two members, and the uniforms, as usual, carry out the Buckaroo colors, green and white. Among the many enjoyable programs of the year by the club was the excellent presentation of the Christmas Cantata and Fall Husic Review. The girls have appeared before both junior and senior high assemblies and furnished entertainment for the Methodist Church banquet, the Older Boys Conference, the 011 Belt Teachers' Association, and the Lions Club. 'The Dynamo' is published weekly by the aournalism students of Breckenridge high school, as a supplement of he Wednesday B ooken- ridgo American. Lt the T.H.S.P.A. Convention in Abilene, February l3, 1937, the Dynamo received the honor and distinction of being judged the best school paper in its class in Texas. It received second place in 1936. 'The Dynamo' is of intense interest to the students, faculty, and parents, as it enables them to follow the activities of the students. The creed of the paper is to publish nero worthy of the school, using tact at all times.
