Mr. Grahek points out a few of the fundamentals of the French language to his class. .li During the time Mr. Grahek has been at Brecken- ridge he has influenced many people, both as a teacher and an advisor. As a teacher he has always tried to teach a little more than was required, a little bit about life. As an advisor he has given en- couragement and direction when it was needed most. Although his schedule is a very busy one, he always seems to find time to help those who need it. Besides teaching French II, American and English Literature, and World History this year, Mr. Grahek, along with Mrs. Kirby, directed the Senior play. All these jobs are very important and take up much of his time, but to us on the Brecksonian staff his most important, and perhaps his most trying, job is the one as our advisor. Without his guidance and regulation it would be almost impossible to put out this yearbook. To show our appreciation for his concern, we, the yearbook staff, along with the students and fa- culty, could find no better tribute than to dedicate the 1968 Brecksonian to him. Q ff za 9-1 W. Varsity Rebuilds il 1' gif' 2 .-ff Captain Bob Fenner attempts two free throws in the crucial Hemlock game. Coach John Britton and the Breckenridge Varsity had a tough sea- son. Although they played well, they never seemed to get that one break that would mean the difference between victory and a loss in the close games the Huskies encountered. They stayed with Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart in two close games when the lrish were rated first in the state. Coach Britton is rebuilding and planning for the future. He started a young ballclub and will have all his starters back next year. The loss of Tom Strouse hurt the team somewhat, but Bob Fenner filled in quickly and did a fine job in leading the team as their captain. It is during this time that ball players learn the skills and develop the attitudes which will be so nec- essary to their future careers in high school ath- letics. As Coach Henderson says, It's always nice to win, but on this level fthe freshmanj the purpose is to build a firm foundation for varsity athletics. A boy who develops a desire to per- form at his best and who realizes the importance of good sportsmanship is the kind of boy who will be a very good representative of his school. As we can see by the picture on the left, bas- ketball is not a matter of putting on a uniform the night of a game. It requires constant practice and sheer hard work. Students danced through the streets of Breckenridge led by the Varsity and J.V. cheerleaders. When they arrived at the -athletic field, where our J.V. football players beat Merrill later that eve- ning, a Hemlock dummy was burn- ed at the stake, and everyone watched as the ashes turned to dust. Friday's Homecoming events began with a pep assembly. Every- onels spirit was high as we antici- pated a victory game over Hem- lock. The Homecoming parade, with twenty-nine entries, began at the Jr.-Sr. High School parking lot. It was lead through town by the fire engine, color guards, and, close behind, the Sr. band. When the parade reached the athletic field, it circled the football field and dispersed. l At halftime, Breckenridge's Majorettes exhibited their talent, while each twirled two fire batons. The Dynamic Drumsn were fea- tured in a lively Latin Preluden. The class representatives and queen nominees were then brought on the field, introduced, and es- corted onto the platform to the music of Autumn Leaves . As tension grew and excitement exploded, last yearls Homecoming queen Janice Herrington, caped and crowned Miss Elaine Darland as Breckenridge's 1967 Homecom- ing queen. Sherry Telgenholf and Mark Cronkite assisted Janice with pil- low and crown. Mr. George Tel- genholf presented Queen Elaine with long-stemmed red roses and warm congratulations. Queen Elaine and her lovely court then paraded around the football field to be recognized as worthy representatives for Breck- enridge High School's 1967 Home coming. You Can't Take It With You is about a family who believes in living in their own way. Often their way isn't quite acceptable to conventional society. Mr. Sy- camore, the head of the house- hold, and Mr. DaPinna manufac- ture fireworks in the basement of their home. Mr. DaPinna lives with the Sycamores because he came to the house one day to Work, liked the people and stayed. Penny Sycamore writes plays be- cause one day a typewriter was delivered to her house by mis - take. Ed Carmichael plays the Xylophone and prints things. Essie Carmichael takes ballet and makes candy called Love Dreams. Grandpa's pastime is raising and going to graduation exercises. The Sycamores don't pay income tax because they don't believe in the things it is used for. Olga Katrina and Kolenkhoff are Russian refugees who add an international flair to the setting. Donald and Rheba are Negro servants. Donald works without pay for fear of being kicked off welfare. The unusual qualities of her family cause problems for Alice Sycamore, who is a very conven- tional sort of girl. When she falls in love with the boss' son , how can she explain her family.
