Learning to type, farm, cook, etc. would be training. The various clubs of the school could very Well be kennel clubs. Finally, the Huskie sees himself taking part in sports -,a champion, indeed! 2 DEDICATICN Pauline Town A person that the Huskies of Breckenridge High Schoolcan be proud of is Mrs. Pauline Town. Not only has she been the advisor for the Student Council, Huskie Howler staff, senior class and this Blue andGold annual, she has been director of both the junior and senior plays. To Mrs. Town we dedicate this 1955 annual in hopes that it will always remain a tribute to the hard work, and always helpful attitude that she has put forth in behalf of BHS for the seven years that she has taught here. She has won the respect and admiration of all who have known her. 3 , aw., 1, M A,.,.,,g,,n,...4.Y.,-new Ma- gg: SY if M' 1 Q' jmmqa, Magna, .J Wu mlb gi iii lg, I' Mow- f J no-51, if 1' 15' 3 7 , A ' -'MW 1 -N--M -'4 v ' an -Y' 'ifflff K 1113423 ' -------W mmiilxl in it ' Q' l W, ,A,, , , 4 AF-W, Le,-jw4g,,L AzA,,,,A A A Z ' Q , ' 5 i i 1 ,..., W Q K g i Era? BOARD OF EDUCATION Secretary-Earl E. Guthrie Trustee-Edward O. Crawford President-Norman J. Roth Under the direction of this group of men who are known as the Board of Education, the Breck- enridge Huskies may well be proud of their advancement in educa- tion and growth in en- rollment. Because of the time and effort put forth by the board, Breckenridge has a new building, a modern shop - ag and home - economics de- partment, and a lighted athletic field. Treasurer-Louis Federspiel Trustee-Lawrence E. Wright MRS ROSANN HOLMES Office Secretary SUPERINTENDENT J. R. CHILDS Mr. Childs has, in his four years of s e r v i c e as superintendent of Breckenridge High School, estab- lished a firm place for himself in the hearts of the faculty and students of B.H.S. The students and faculty have found his advice wise and helpful in all the problems they have taken to him. Under his expert guidance, Breckenridge can now boast of hav- ing one of the finest class C schools in the state. PRINCIPAL SAMUEL A. GRAVITT Mr. Gravitt is probably better known as the band director since this has been his position for the four years that he has been around Breckenridge. This year he was pro- moted to principal and he seems to be getting along fine in this capacity, too. He certainly has done afine job with the band and this particular Huskie feels confident that he will fill the position of principal as well. 7 OTTO W. I guided them through their freshman initiation, class suppers, Junior and Senior Banquet and Prom, Jr. and Sr. plays. They also had a few more difficult moments and worries, but always managed to recover with a more vigorous attitude than before. With the help of their instructors, they managed to gain their share of knowledge along with many enjoyable experiences. We will miss their vivacious way, and optimistic attitude. Their leaders in their senior year include: Phil Huntoon, class pres- ident: JimGillis, Vice presidentg Janice Federspiel, secretaryg and Co- lene Moore, treasurer. The sophomore class returned to school in the fall-66 strong. I found that they had settled down somewhatand weren't quite so restless. They got to know me as their mascot and helped improve the school spirit by appearing at more games. With the help of their class adviser, Frank Sinclair, they added quite a sum to their treasury by selling hot dogs at games and by sponsoring an assembly. It didn't take long for this class to look upon me as their school mascot, but they were quite a shock to me because this was the largest class to enter Breckenridge High in my whole lifetime. The FHA is one of the largest and most active clubs within my realm. Miss O'Malley,Adviser, and Mrs. Ruth Crawford, Chapter Mother, have directed the girls through a good year. Of their many activities these were the outstanding: The Annual FHA-FFA Pheasant Supperl at which the freshmen girls were ini- tiatedg work for the March of Dimes, the Mothers' Day Tea and Style Show, at which Mrs. Wave G range r , State FHA Adviser was honored guest, packing Christmas gifts for the Lapeer Home, and the Annual Penny Supper. FUTURE FARM lam well acquainted with the FFA as it has been an organization at Breckenridge High for Z5 years. The FFA started out with 73 members this year with their first project being the harvest of the FFA corn which netted over Sl00. The next project of these Future Farmers was the undertaking of the Christian Rural Overseas Program. The boys collected over 5300. for the CROP drive. This silver anniversary year saw the Future Farmers start a hog chain with thre e gilts of top grade Yorkshire hogs. Twelve members sold choice grade steers at the St. .lohn's Auction. One of the usual big features of the year is the annual Pheasant Supper s p on s 0 re d in co-operation with the FHA. This year the supper was a success with the program consisting of local talent. During the supper, Sam Cole, a local trucker, was added to the list of Honorary FFA members. Starting shortly before Christmas the organization undertook its yearly pest control contest. Leroy Little placed first, Tom Moul- ton, secondg and Lloyd Long, third in the contest. Soon after Christmas vacation the FFA sponsored an ice skat- ing party which was attended by about 75 students. ln the s p ring , the FFA held its first Father and Son Banquet. This event also proved a success and will undoubtedly be continued in the future. Felix Ramirez, Jim Gillis, Duane Root, and .Terry Hollenbeck applied for FFA state Farmer Degrees during this year. ltr ERS ..Q. .-,,., fi W LEARNING TB DD Q w:sb.x k F BEING TU LEARN Q: naamaz idikfif :Sas am: L E' Q , - i i N. , V .AWS E , S Sis vw ' S -X x , ..., .. JUNIOR PLAY-BEAUTY AND THE BEEF This year I attended the performance of Beauty and the Beef , a three act comedy by William Davidson, which was presented by the junior class on April 15, 1955. The play was a huge success under the capable direction of Mrs. Pauline Town and student directors, Dorothy Lutz and Harriet Weburg. The plot included what happens when Ginny Allen fMaxine Grossj, a pretty girl who is the smartest girlever to graduate from the Junior Quiz program , meets the captain of the football team, Beef fLloyd Curtisj, who isn't so smart in the classroom and doesn't want a girl with brains. With funds from the pop sales the club bought a new trophy to replace the Chisholm award which ran out last year and also purchased track uniforms which were badly needed. The club was guided through the year by Adrain Sanchez, president: Larry Miller, vice-presidentg Phillip Huntoon, secretary-treasurerg Coach Paul Southerland and Coach Harol Beisel, advisors. In the season's first game with Edmore we came from behind to win 19-6. The first conference game was with Merrill and after a halftime score of 13-O in favor of Merrill, BHS scored two touchdowns to win 14-13. The next game was with Hemlock hands-down by the score of 35-7. After winning the first four games BHS hit a rough spot and lost the next three. In the Homecoming game with Fulton the team suffered their first loss of the season, 6-0 and in their last conference game they were outplayed by St. Charles 12-0. This put Breckenridge in third place. The last game of the season was played at Beaverton with Coach Paul Southerland's boys on the losing end of a Z4-13 score. The high scorer for the season was Adrian Sanchez with 35 points. He was followed by Junior Sanchez, 283 Phil Huntoon, 12g Jerry Hollenbeck, 123 Evert Giles, 63 and Chuck Sklener, 3. Adrian Sanchez was selected by his teammates as the most valuable player of the year and was awarded the Varsity Club plaque at the annual Football Banquet on November 10. 58 5 3 K A na 1 vb, Crit ov' 'Arg s Jr 4 ' Q if ' : i I :arcs 1 The Junior Varsity team, composed of -underclassmen, won one game, tied two, and lost three. The Huskies also played two non-conference games with Ithaca, April 18 and 25. Our second and final home game on May 19 with Merrill concluded the year's sport season at BHS. I could well be proud of my fleet-footed track boys. They placed in the Central Re- lays in Mt.
