OXUl Sop' Glee Gluts Student Council The Student Council started quite a few years ago with just a committee of students who discussed the problems of the school with the teachers. It has been progressing ever since, and now an elected group of students meet twice a month without the supervision of a teacher to thrash out all of these B.H.S. problems. The Advisor this year is Mr. Peterson and the officers are: President, Joan Guthrie; Vice President, Anna Muscott; Secretary, Lois Greening; and Treasurer, Vemelda Good. Student Teachers, Sale of War Stamps and Bonds, Air Raid Wardens, Assembly programs, dances and other committees are all under the supervision of the Student Council. lee (21 ul The Glee Club was divided into two groups. The 10th, 11th, and 12th grades making the senior high group while the 7th, 8th, and 9th grades made the junior high group. The senior group met every Monday and Wednesday the 3rd period. There were 51 girls in that group and 45 in the junior high group which met on Monday and Wednesday the 4th hour. The senior group sand at the Baccalaureate services, and the junior group sang at the Thanksgiving program and at one of the Rotary meetings. Bop 2jlee CM The Boy's Glee Club was again under the leadership of Miss Barnes. There were about thirty-eight in the group. They met every Tuesday the third period. C'jirli Bmemltle The girls ensemble was composed of eight girls under the leadership of Miss Barnes. They have no regular practice period. They have sung for school and public activities many times. Carol McCallum, Paula McCallum, Georgia Lee Yates, Lois Greening, Ruby Posey, Emma Sopko, Alice Klme and Marjorie Allen made up the Ensemble. £ck 00 fiapei The B.H.S. ECHO was re-christened last year as the HUSKIE HOWLER and has held that name through this year. The paper, under the editorship of Wayne Busch and his staff was pre- sented as a bi-monthly issue of popular features all year. At the beginning of the year a small amount of ten cents was tajcen from class treasurers for each person in the class; this would allow everyone to get a paper. Others on the staff were: Assistant Editor—Norma Sherwood, Art Editor--Gloria Capen, Feature Editor--Carol McCallum, Sports Editor--Charles Corbett, Exchange Editor--Wanda Randall, and Typists—Virgil Nelson, Anna Louise Bassette, Norma Sherwood, Marjorie Cates, and Grace French. The remainder of the American Lit. Class were reporters. Miss Lucille Barnes and Mrs. Ivah Baldwin were the advisors of the group. fluilic Cpealinq A public speaking class was organized under the leadership of Mr. Peterson this year. About ten students enrolled for the purpose of bettering their speech, and especially learn- ing after dinner speeches. Copk omotei Forty-two students entered high school September 8 to be enrolled as sophomores. The annual tug-of-war was lost by both boys and girls teams to the freshman class. Our most im- portant event of the year was the party we gave the freshmen in September. Officers for this year were as follows: President, Bob Gallagher; Vice President .John Poindexter; Secretary, Norma Bissell; Treasurer, Harold Brennan; Advisor, Mr. Stephens. 'Tre hmen We are the class known as freshmen. There were fifty-nine of us entering your halls excited but shy about doing it. Our first step toward getting acquainted was when we defeated the sophomore boys and girls in the annual homecoming tug-of-war. That evening we attended our first high school party in our honor by the sophomores. After being here awhile we became accustomed to the ways and ideas of our upperclassmen so we stepped forward with a class play given at an assembly directed by Mrs. Clark. Our class officers were chosen to lead the class with Purle Good as President; Bob Bolt, Vice President; Lois Wittig, Secretary; Jim Lewis, Treasurer; Lyle Gallagher, Student Council Representative and Advisor, Mr. Patterson. r L hI_IUh cjcO U 'Tootlrall The Huskies ended the 1942 football season of Saginav Valley C Conference holding 2nd place. The team was made up of practically all seniors except for substitutes. The seniors who graduate this year will be Peter LaClair, William Cater, Dale Doan, Elmer Neitzke, Bernard Nagel, William Levis, Ivan Story, Charles Robinson, Robert Clemens. Charles Robinson with a fractured arm was the only casualty of the season. We wish the best of luck to Mr. Hicks and the team for the coming season.
