Vt Senior On that sunny September 7. the seniors loaded the buses in high spirits. Their destination ... Camp Courage and a weekend of activities to build unity, spirit, and friendships. After finding the cabins and unloading their bags, the students assembled on the field for some organized chaos. The seniors were divided into teams for the upcoming games. In the first game, each team member was blindfolded and directed across the field to an awaiting orange pylon. Even with all the screamed directions, it was very difficult. and many people ended up taking a peek to get their bearings. To encourage cooperation, the next event consisted of team members joining into a knot and trying to untangle. Supposedly without letting go of hands, the seniors climbed, crawled, twirled, and untied for two minutes ... never tell a senior that a circle is a simple geometric shape. The climax of the activities was the Bird of Paradise. Each team, blindfolded and holding hands, was directed to the goal (a birdfeeder) by its own “zork . Walking across the field and around — or often Into — the buildings, the students had only claps or whistles to follow. Mr. Hansen's team won after the Rev. Zork suddenly acquired the gift of speech. Weekend detour in the woods, to be named the most honest team. After calming down a bit, the seniors formed discussion groups. Topics like the characteristics of a friend, future plans, and greatest hopes and fears kept the seniors communicating with unusual openness. During breaktime, the seniors amused themselves with some volleyball matches, tackle football (the guys led by several varsity players against the girls led by a fiercely competitive Karen Hanson), and soccer. Kim Burnet even managed to sprain her thumb by catching a football. Along with building unity and friendship, the seniors also built towers. Equipped only with materials such as paper clips, markers, tagboard, and their own creativity, the groups began construction. The towers were judged on height, beauty, stability, and economy. They ranged from the winner (lots of stability and beauty) to the social commentary tower (definitely economical). The evening culminated with a dance inside and a bonfire outside. Music could be heard everywhere; inside there was a rock band, and with the help of Mr. Rosenfield's guitar playing, the fire was ablaze with song. The next morning, after a meeting, free time, and packing, the seniors returned to Breck ... unified, happy, and extremely tired. 7 Sophia Clopath — our Swiss Miss 8 Debbie.
