I Sauntering down the hall, mirrored glasses pushed down their noses, hats pulled low over their eyes, the students invaded the halls of Breck School on Sep. 26. 1983 to kick off spirit week with hat and sunglasses day. People in plaids and dots on clash day turned up as marine sergeants on M A • S H day. en)oying a day of exemption from Mr. Philips' rule ogainst army fatigues. Cool dudes with slicked down hair and their chicks in saddle shoes bebopped down the hall on Fifties day. Friday was Homecoming, designated Blue and Gold day. Kids in blue jeons pinned oversized buttons reading Mustangs Mash Mayer to yellow sweaters and restlessly awaited the afternoon festivities. The coronation started at 1:45. beginning the string of events. Wayne Wilderson and Heather McCoy were crowned King ond Queen amidst a standing ovation from the entire school. The Pep Fest followed the Coronation as over 300 kids crowded into the main gym to scream themselves hoarse for the athletic teoms. The band played feverishly, drowning out the cheerleaders. Coach Do-heny led the students in the old cheer We don't mess around. HEY! . After the Pep Fest, the gomes began with Girts' Volleyball. Soccer. Cross-Country running, and Boys' soccer. By the time of the football game, the fans were psyched up and reody to get wild. At 7:00, a crackle came over the public-address system and the game was underway. The Mustangs jumped to a quick lead, and never lost it. Every time Breck scored, the stands erupted. The team caught this excitement. and by halftime the score stood 21-8. In the second half, a fired-up Mayer Lutheran gave Breck a momentary scare, but thanks to the excellent quarterbacking of Chris Reinertson and the effort of the whole team, Breck ended up with an easy 40-15 victory. After the game, students drifted into the dance featuring Crush on You”, a semipunk rock group. Kids jumped and contorted their bodies until eleven p.m. when Homecoming came to an end. Hot and tired from dancing, students straggled out. sti savoring the thought of victory over Mayer Lutheran; a fitting end to an event-filled week. Homecoming 11
