HO ANTS ALLOWED Nearly everyone at Breck knows the feeling of entering a new school and not knowing anybody. Most people at Breck are also familiar with how hard it is to make friends, especially in a school which requires extended hours of study and has a widespread community. In the Lower School, new students are united with old students in an exciting way-at the beginning of the year they go on a picnic. The Lower School students set off to a state-owned park after school. There aren’t any pre-organized games, so the kids organize their own activities. The old students challenge the new students in such games as softball and soccer. It doesn’t really matter who wins; it’s the interaction that counts. After the picnic the kids feel more comfortable with each other. It’s a great way for the kids to get acquainted with each other and have a lot of fun in the process. Teachers begin to prepare students for the work they will to do in Middle School. Do they ever have time for fun? Imme Kersten and Katie Jones found many things to like about the last year in Lower School, not the least of which was being the oldest. Swimming also met with their approval, and their enjoyment of the sport was heightened by the fact that they were unable to go swimming last year. Many teachers in Lower School were named as another reason fourth grade was fun. Imme and Katie also thought skating was a great part of their program as did the rest of the fourth grade. Next year, fourth graders are expecting their schedules to be easier. Middle Schoolers do the same things every days our schedule changes and we sometimes get confused.” one fourth grader commented. The fourth grade seems to be looking forward to next year. Since this information from Imme and Katie is shared by the rest of the class, how can they miss?
