★★★★★★ ★★★★★★★ ★★★★★★★ ★★★ ★★★ ★★★ ★ ★★ ★ ★★★★★★ ★★★★★★★ ★ ★★★★ BRECK SCHOOL 4200 West River Road Minneapolis, Minnesota 55406 DEDICATION The 1976 Mustang is dedicated to one of the most respected people at Breck, Mr. Robert J. Aarthun. He has a set a good example for all of us through his friendship, sense of humor, concern, and diligence. He expresses responsibility for the entire student body by seeing that the Breck standards of sportsmanship and citizenship are carried out. Mr. Aarthun has been at Breck for nineteen years. During this time he has coached three varsity sports and served as Athletic Director. The spirited enthusiasm he instilled in his players is now focused on all of the students in his role as Assistant Headmaster. Mr. Aarthun is one of the students’ greatest friends. He is someone to whom a student can turn with the assurance that problems and complaints will be listened to with an open mind. He is forgiving and looks for the good in the individual. As a disciplinarian. Mr. Aarthun does not merely enforce the rules. He is not satisfied until he is assured that the student offender feels he has been dealt with justly. By providing such enthusiastic support to Breck, Mr. Aarthun is an invaluable member of Breck’s administration. It is with much pleasure and appreciation that theMustang Staff dedicates their work to him. UNDERCLASSMEN 9B SENIORS TRHTION BE r mi i MURK DRISCOLL HOMECOMING Q. What does Homecoming mean to you? A chance to see former students. Uniting the student body You can be proud of the school. A time to get to know most of the new people. Kids in school get together and cheer on the teams. A time to see old friends you didn't get to see over the summer. Q. What do you remember most about Homecoming? Seeing Frank Phelps in a suit.” The games. Watching the parade. The coronation. Sitting in the sun watching soccer and football. Fooling around on the hockey rink roof. I guess having fun. Student Life 9 “The Bicentennial is the 200th birthday of our country. It will take all the people in the whole world to blow out all the candles on our cake. — Lieven DeGeyndt 1st grade I’m a Yankee Doodle Dandy, A Yankee Doodle do or die. A real live nephew of my Uncle Sam’s, Born on the 4th of July. I got a Yankee Doodle sweetheart, She's my Yankee Doodle joy. Yankee Doodle came to London Just to play the ponie, I am a Yankee Doodle Boy. — from Middle School play. I think that the Bicentennial should remind us that the power should be in the hands of the people and the states instead of Federal Government. — Sue Ann Williams 12th grade “The Preamble (to the Constitution) is filled with action. There is not a word of indifference or apathy or cynisism in it. Every word is to form, to assure, to establish. to set. to provide, to promote and secure. The whole thrust of the Constitution is an active government, a positive government. — Senator Hubert Humphrey in his address to Breck School Blacks have made headway in ecomonic and political circles in the past 200 years. It is just my hope that it won’t take another 200 years for blacks to obtain a true standing of equality in the land where there is ‘freedom and justice for air. — Tonya McGee 12th grade from her article in the Breck Bugle i Praise God from whom all bless-ings flow Martin Luther King told the nation that he had a dream that one d y this nation would rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: all men are created equally under God . We only catch a glimpse ot all the Me that is around. The man is not alive who knows the value ot his soul. And when our lives are pulled away, there’s more to fill the hole I wonder what you'd think if all the changes didn't come. For growing old is only gomg back to where you re from Far beyond our senseless thoughts there lies a core of gold Where essence of the newborn child is waiting m the old. The Master Plan is well concetved. it's there for all to see And each day that is spent in thought, is living harmony Reach into the depths of being, pass beyond the years.
