mm HOMECOMING 1974 Homecoming 1974! Breck is made of special events, and our biggest one is Homecoming. It is a time when all can participate in the crowning of the kind and queen, cheering our football and soccer team on, but most of all, a time when the Breck community can be together, and spirit for our school can be brought out. Kris Anderson David Kallstrom (King) Sandy Crawford (Queen) John Maslansky Loranda McNulty Grant Lindemer Barb Brown Jamie Reid Lauri Kropp David Crist David Legan (Host) Nancy Melzer (Hostess) Entertainment: Miriam Colacci John Maslansky 2 3 DEDICATION Breck is a community made of people who really care for each other; people who are willing to listen. One of the most loving and caring people in our Breck community is Micheal Weiszel. He is a teacher who is truly willing to devote himself to his students. He is much more than a teacher; he is a friend. He takes time to listen to kids' problems whether they are academic or personal. Herr Weiszel came to Breck six years ago as Head of the Language Department and German teacher. Until this year he was the Mustang Advisor. He put in many long hours after school helping the staff. As leader of the celebrated Breck Kazoo Band, he made the hockey tournment a whole school activity. The Breck Community wishes to express its deep gratitude to Herr Weiszel and thank him for his patience and understanding. We hope that we may enjoy his presence for many years to come. We love you Herr, The Mustang Staff. s SENIOR LIFE Breck is also its students. Many still have years left before they reach their last year, but for the seniors, this is the last. They leave behind friends, teachers and memories that will never be forgotten. Seniors are people who are at times very serious ... 6 7 THEME P.2 ADMINISTRATION P.9 GROUPS P. 15 FACULTY P. 25 SENIORS P. 41 SPORTS P. 79 UNDERCLASSMEN P. 125 School ft In IGQft ADMINISTRATION JOHN C. LITTLEFORD HEADMASTER Mr. Littleford's first year at Breck has brought about a great change in this school's structure. Many people see him hurrying down the halls to a board meeting or to one of the many committees he has helped to organize. Mr. Littleford get's involved with the students and their interests. He has encouraged them to participate, along with the teachers in discipline, curriculum, chapel, lounge, and school dances. You will almost always see Mr. Littleford at school games. He goes out of his way to come for at least a few minutes. Mr. Littleford was the Assistant Headmaster and Director of Upper School at Gill St. Bernard Private School in Bernardsville, New Jersey. 10 Another One of Those Days. PLAYBOY?? Mrs. Matoush reviews the latest history foldout. IN MEMORY OF MRS. LEONE FREUND Mrs. Leone Freund worked at Breck for six years as the Assistant Headmaster's secretary and secretary to the Academic Office. Those were unquestionably six great years in which Breck School needed Leone Freund's particular style of strength. Her son, Kerry, graduated from Breck in 1968 and Kevin will graduate in June, 1975. Both boys are a real tribute to Gus and Leone Freund. Leone's dedication to her job was fantastic. She would assume responsibility for any job that needed to be done. Hours meant nothing to her. She worked on comments and grades, minutes of meetings, even volunteering to help students by typing their themes — often working into the wee hours of the night. Leone was also the School Nurse, and many an injured youngster remembers her kindness. She was always there to give a helping hand or advice to students and faculty members alike. I cannot understand how so much love, loyalty and dedication could be contained in one person. Leone had a giving and loving heart. I loved, and still do, the memories of Leone Freund. Her memory will live on at Breck School. Leone Freund made me a better person, and I really believe this is true of everyone whose life she touched. by Robert J. The Morning After Look John, our door is always open In The Mood. i When you rock and roll with 77 Japan Week was an experience that will last in the memory of a lot of students. Within 24 hours Breck was changed from a college preparatory school into a Japenese paradise through the brilliant direction of Ms. Harper. Students had to decide which of the 124 courses they wanted to attend. The courses ranged from Flower Arranging to Judo with lots of fun in between. Thanks — Ms. Harper! I was fresh out of college and almost as raw as they were but we all had one thing in common, a serious desire to be successful and respected as a great basketball team. It was very difficult in the beginning as nothing comes without hard work, dedication, patience, and effort. We had many frustrating days in those early years but we never lost sight of our goals. Over the last two years tremendous improvement could be seen, not only in making baskets but in a feeling of self-confidence and self-esteem which could be seen in the players. This year has proven to be the best in Breck history in the statistic department but even more rewarding is the fact that the last five years have played a successful part in developing young men that Breck can certainly be proud of. I will never forget this team, for a finer group to coach does not exist. MEMORIES Dr. T. . Berkie Isaac reading socks oohh! My knee ... Wally's stories . . Halvo getting attacked at Morris .. Career high 29 ... Foul on No 910 with No Body ... What gives Kurt the runs? Digger Kaitz — Coach of the Year V WRESTLING Rock Man Rick gives his opponent a piggyback ride. I speak to you people, you the members of the Brcck community, on behalf of a small group of young men, a Wrestling Team. I am not asking you to understand them, for you are not with them and you cannot. I am not asking you to marvel at the precision of their skills; for unless you understand their sport the majority of their work goes unnoticed. What I am asking you for is certainly no great gift on your part, but believe me, it is vital to a high school athlete. 1 want you to give this team your support with your presence, your voice and your comfort in defeat. For some reason, the Wrestler is a lost entity at Breck School, and even now I would wager that most Breck students could not name half the team, but that doesn't really matter. What matters is that the members of this team are working toward a goal. How hard they arc working is known only to themselves. And every timeea wrestler meets an opponent he is given a chance to perform his skills; to show his coach, his team, his friends, and his school how hard he’s worked toward obtaining his goal. You have to realize that it can be quite lonely out there on the mat; just you against him, and to have a crowd behind you urging you on can sometimes mean everything. None the less, most of the wrestlers on this year's Varsity know what it's like to wrestle in front of a handful of well-wishers and they don’t let it bother them, but it bothers me. I see them work everyday. I witness each and every one of their drills, and when they accomplish something through their toil and effort I feel saddened that more people are not there to share in their accomplishments. Well, that's all right, I'm not asking you to understand their preparation I’m asking you to acknowledge their dedication. ’’Well, I'll be a monkey's uncle. Dave prepares for the Pin I'm tough, but cute! understand their preparation;I'M ASKING YOU TO ACKNOWLEDGE THEIR DEDICATION Top: John Grubb. 3rd Row: Bob Bishop, Sandy Mucshen-heim. 2nd Row: David Thwaits, Ashraf Kahlafalla, Ricky Field, Nancy Melzer.
