Breck School i J r j’ ytf I 4200 West River Road Mini$apolis, Minnesota BLATHERWICK mu KN V He came to Breck in 1964. JACK BLATHERWICK helped Mr. Aurihun Coach football before taking over as head coach himself. He coached hockey his first year. Having played athletics from ninth through twelfth grade at Minnehaha Academy, coaching while in college, and being in his teqth year at Breck. he has been associated with the MISL for nearly 18 years and so regrets seeing the league disband because of all the tradition that has built up through He was athletic director from 1969 to 1972. But, as athletic directuf he didn't feel he was spending enough time doing what he really loves to dcrt— teaching and spending time with kids. In his years at Breck he has donated several hundred dollars of his own money for things he feels are important, such as buying weights and making an old storage room into a weight-lifting room T his is not to mention the many, many hours he has spent on the nuintoniim e and improvement of the Breck hockey rink. J ' Mr. Blatherwick, as a coach, teacher, and person, is a character builder. He won't let the individual let himself down by not trying his very hardest. He respects people much more for hard work than natural abilities. In coaching and in life, he stresses that if something is important to a person, he owes it to himself to try his best to achieve it. He is an understanding and deeply compassionate person. He will work with you on any problem until it is solved and you feel good again. He does all the hockey skating drills with his players. He is a truly dedicated individual. Probably the greatest part of his personality is his abundant generosity. He always seems to have time for the individual, whether it is for a personal problem or extra-help in mathematics. He's always giving people rides home when they get stranded. A perfect example of Mr. Blatherwick's character is brought out in an incident after a tough hockey game. He treated the whole team to pizza, and being one penny short for the check, he flipped for the penny with the cashier and won! by Ken Shepherd Opening P. 1 Faculty P. 5 Seniors P. 29 Extra-Curricular Activities P. 59 Theme P. 66 Underclassmen P. 119 Athletics P. 74 Events P. 114 4 Canon F. Douglas On these pages and the following two, we commemorate Canon's 21 years of service to Breck School. The photos are from the files of earlier Mustangs. These have been years filled with change: the move to the new campus; the end of the military; the beginning of co-education; the building of the Chapel; the hockey rink; the science wing; the Quest program. These and many other physical and educational changes have been inspired and brought about under Canon Henderson's leadership. These two pages feature his relationship with his most important concern — the student. On pages 8 and 9 we depict the growth of the new campus. The Breck community is proud of the school and its educational program and is indebted to Canon Henderson for his creativity and hard work he has expended on our behalf. We look forward to his continued guidance in his new position. President of the Board.
