Many students participated in sports which were not school-spon- sored. Some were involved in gym- nastics, During their evening classes they would work on parallel bars , balance beams, floor exercises, and the vault. Deanna LaPrade said, It really gave you a chance to express yourself. Two other sports were softball and teenage baseball. Both were played in spring and summer. Winners often played into late july and early August going as high as na- tional competition. Soccer attracted many students during its fall-winter season. One player said, Soccer is a growing sport. It requires you to play as a team not as an individual. The final game count was 15-14 for the season and 3-7 for fourth place in district. Keary Castleberry was named to the first team All District and first team All Brazoria County. Rick Nordstrom got Honorable Mention. The team, as a whole, won the Brazosport College tournament in De- cember and Castleberry was named most valuable player.
