lrene Caps Off Choir's Year I n The Brazoswood Fine Arts De- partment presented the musical- comedy lrene in mid-May. The presentation was cast in early ' spring, after A Cappella Choir L ' C 5 xg? ' - -Ii 'f??l'iff' ,ffff I p ' members endured hours of nerve- wracking auditions before the choir's director, john Magee. Saundra Whitehead and Robert Crawford played the leading roles. Supporting leads were Merry Bra- shear and Kenneth Golden. Other parts included Lori Brown, Berenda Cheatum, D.j. Eldred, Denise Brown, Gary Cofer, and Louis Wa- guespack. McCarty and Wague- spack were also the student direc- tor and stage director, respective- ly. Prop manager was Debbie Dip- pel. Although choir members were the only ones seen on stage, many groups participated in the musical. c g The pit band, led by Rod Cannon,provided all music for the presentation. Ethel Clark was the pianist. Drama coach Victor Platt was co- director, along with Magee. Art students painted the sets, Betsye Witcher was choreographer, and Jody Jones was in charge of the sets. The actual presentation of Irene on May 17, 18, and 19, was enjoyed all three performances with the actors receiving standing ovations every night. Chorus members, lead performers, and band members put in hours of grueling rehearsals after school and at night, but the work was worth it in the end, when audiences responded with laughter and tears to the performances of play participants. A Cruise to the Stars was the theme of the junior-Senior Prom, held April 28 in the cafeteria. The scene of a thousand dull lunch hours became magically trans- formed into a beautiful winter scene. The main decoration was an unusual fountain that contained dry ice, giving the room a foggy, interesting overcast. Moonchild provided the music. Although many couples came to the Prom for a few minutes only before going to Houston or local restaurants for dinner, the Prom was nevertheless enjoyed by many. Spon- sors were Danny Goviale, Minnette Christinsen, Lavern John, Kathy Chris- tianson, and Ray Murrell.
