The ending of the school year was a confus- ing jumble of images, feelings, and exper- iences. Anticipation for the freedom of sum- mer days combined with sadness at leaving friends . Worried students had to fight the call of beautiful spring afternoons to study for final exams. Some seniors were exempt from their tests and said good-byes early, trying to wrap up their high school lives in memory books , and making promises to keep in touch.
