Innovations Brighten School Year Although some of the standard courses at Brazoswood were considered more dull than others, some subjects were made more interesting through the use of special programs, speakers, and projects. Many such academic innovations were initiated at Brazoswood this year. Several Brazoswood classes were visited by area speakers. Mr. jim Cutshall, a member of the School Board, visited the government class of Mrs. Pat Lorenz and explained various aspects of school admin- istration to the interested students . The Superintendent of Schools, Mr. Vance Littleton, also lectured on this subject to Mr. Ed Brown's math classes. Another well-received speaker was Mr. Ed Casper, who entertained students in Mrs. Donna jablecki's classes with his presenta- tion on electricity. One of the experiments in Mrs. Pat Lor- enz' class was to blindfold one student while others fed him particular foods. The A experiment was conducted to determine if a person's taste is influenced by his sense of sight. Another project was a play in which the students in Mrs. jan Taylor's English class enacted a story they were reading. Perhaps the most dramatic and certainly the most frightening experiment undergone by Brazoswood students was one in which they were seized out of class, arrested, and forced to spend a night in the county jail, as part of a program to demonstrate to students how it feels to be a victim of the law. In this mock-arrest, the students ac- tually participated in an event which they had previously only heard about. The stu- dents expressed surprise and fear at the things they encountered during this pro- ject. These and other innovations in Brazos- wood classrooms helped to make the ev- eryday routine of school more interesting and informative . aj junior Kerry Castleberry helps Mr. Ed Casper from the Houston Lighting and Power Company demonstrate the power of static electricity.
