19 Receive Drama, journalism Honors Thirteen journalism students were selected to Quill and Scroll, an honorary association for outstanding journalism students. In order to qualify for this honor, students had to be in the upper one third of their class, a superior work- er in journalism, and at least a third quarter sophomore in school. The students newly elected to the Brazoswood Max R. Haddick Chapter of Quill and Scroll were Rhonda Bashaw, jennifer Bashaw, Sue Blanken- ship, Dena Brown, Melissa Burkett, Terese Coignet, Gioia Grosso, Stephanie Hall, john Nowlin, Pam Tatum, Paul Vanderwal, jennifer White, and Colleen Whitmore. E Officers of Quill and Scroll were President Mindy Brock, Vice-President Kelli Walton, Secretary Debbie Scruggs, Treasurer Mar- lyne Gutierrez and Court Jester Merry Bra- shear. Quill and Scroll raised money for journal- istic projects including the journalism ban- quet at the year's end. New Quill and Scroll members were announced at this banquet, where, before their fellow journalism mem- bers, they were honored with a Quill and Scroll pin and ribbon. New members pledged to maintain the highest journalistic standards in their future journalistic work. The Thespians were selected. In order to be a Thespian, they had to have at least 100 hours of work in drama. The new members are Alice Brown, Sherrie jones, Katie Saunders, Dale I-Iulsopple, Lisa Fitzpa- trick, and Jeannie Webb. The new Thespian officers were President Teresa Donnell, Secretary Anna Marie So- mich, and Historian Perry Edar. The Thespians were kept busy all year by sponsoring all drama activities.

Byron Arminton was a cheerleader for three years and on Student Council for two years. He won merit awards in Algebra 1 and World History. He participated in freshman football, and he was selected to Junior Who's Who. . ..., ,wsu 0 juniors, Seniors Selected To Who's Whc Keith Acuff was a National Merit Scholarship winner. He was a member of Medical Careers Club, Chem Club, Latin, French, and Jets clubs, National Honor Society, and president of Dow Explorer Po 350. He was district ready writing champion in 1978 and also placed second in 1979. He also won a second, two thirds, and two fourths in district UII. debate, science , slide rule and number sense. He won two social studies merit award, four in language arts, two in foreign language , three in math, and four in sciences. He participated in tw years of National Science Foundation summer program for high-abili Ztudents and a nuclear science seminar for outstanding high school stu ents. Bruce Bradford was a three-year All-dist-ict golfer and fifth in re- . gion as a senior after being second place in district as a sophomore ar senior. He made region choir as a sophomore.
