FHA, FTA, And FBLA Prepares Students Future Homemakers of America QFI-IAQ taught students cooking and Fam- ily planning. Their activities included a I .wl- Halloween party for children, a trip to Astroworld, and a cookoff for the boys. In the cookoff, there were twenty en- tries with seven first place winners. They boys cooked deserts , salads , bread, and main dishes. During the year, guest speakers spoke to FHA members on food preperation. The po- sitions for president, secretary, and treasury were filled on an alternate ba- sis. Officers were Donna jones, janet Kelley, Emily Lott, Gail Vann, Marcy West, and Karlene Zeitler. The club, Future Teachers of Amer- ica QFTAQ, was formed to give students an idea of how the teaching profession works. One of the ways the students were exposed to this profession was by attending a convention in Fort Worth, Texas. At convention, they visited many workshop classes . FTA members also helped children. They held a pet show at the Beutel Elementary School and they took a group of children to the Houston Zoo. The club members were later al- lowed to visit local Ele- mentary and Intermediate schools so they could ob- serve the different situa- tions of teaching. Making students aware of the business world was the main objective of Fu- ture Business Leaders of America. QFBLA5 The club members attended a year- ly convention in Austin. Students competed on dif- ,E ferent levels of Typing, Writing, and job Inter- view. They also attended a District Meet at San Ja- A A cinto College . B
