Cheerleaders Spark Pep Rallies Students roared when it was time for pep rallies. Leading them off were the cheerleaders . They were Byron Armintor and Denise Dolezal, seniors Rhonda Pyeatt and Debbie Miller, juniors, and sophomores jean Mardis, Lori Meadors, Amy Ripley, and Ceci Schumann. The cheerleaders put a lot of time into their cheers. They went to cheerleading camp last summer in San Marcos at SWTSU. They practiced four days a week in the summer and three days during the school week. The requirements of a cheerleader were that they could not be failing any classes or have any U's in conduct on the report card prior to try-outs. If a cheer- leader was on the ineligibility list, they could not cheer at that week's game or pep rally. The highlight of the junior Engineering Technogical Society club's year was the re- ceiving of Texas AGM scholarships by johnita Davis, Steve Lamb, and Louis Waguespack. Oth- er activities were a tour of the Dow Chemical Hydrocarbon plantg a chemical engineering talk by Ron Dipprey, engineer adviser to JETS chapterg a biome- dical engineering lec- ture by james Iunking and the receiving of a chapter from Principal H. E. Marcum. Officers for the year were president Steve Hazelton, vice-presi- dent johnita Davis , treasurer Olivia Hanna, and secretary Renai Knight. Sponsor for the year was Ed Brown. At their regular Tues- day night meetings , Chemistry club mem- bers did such projects as making steel and set- ting off gun power as well as more traditional experiments into the field of chemistry. The clubs purpose was to allow those with a real interest to develop it in work not normally performed in regular chemistry classroom or lab situations.
