Social Science students had three major opportu- nities to compete with oth- er schools or learn more about our government this year. Nine Students went to Bee County College for a social studies contest. There were three categor- ies, American History, World History, and American Government. The following people participated: Christy jo- hanson, American Gov- ernmentg Christine Nie- kamp, World Historyg Perry Edgar, World His- toryg David Kremmer, American Historyg Kim Bresler, American Histo- ryg Kevin Whitaker, American Historyg jeff Whitaker, World Historyg Lori La Coume, American Governmentg and Mindy Brock, American Govern- ment. Those students spon- sored by LaVern John and Kathy Kennedy in Houston Area Model United Nations QHAMUNJ were divided into teams for two con- tries , Cuba and Italy. They researched the coun- tries and dressed as dele- gates from those countries might. They played the roles of those countries at the regional HAMUN as- semblies at Houston. ln- cluded in topics for debate were disarmament and territorial disputes in Af- rica. The Close-up week in Washington D . C . offered students a chance to see the operations of the gov- ernment and meet with of- ficials from career gov- ernment employees to elected officials including Ron Paul and Lloyd Bent- sen, They also toured his- toric sites. The Close-up award winner, who won an all expense-paid trip, was Mark Amorin.

Industrial Arts Students Place At State Of the 36 members of the In- dustrial Arts Club, 21 went to Region, and 19 went on to State competition where nearly all of them placed. Other activities in- cluded field trips to Iminac, Texas Highway Dep't, Collins ln- stitute in Angleton, and Danbury Institute. The officers for the Industrial Arts Club this year were Terri Clark, President, Mike Wil- liams, Vice-President, julie Schulte, Secretary, Shaun Ter- ry, Treasurer, Donna Morgan, Reporter, and jerry Perry, Ser- geant-at-Arms.
