Shirts bearing the words Ite Piratae were seen all around the halls this year. This was the motto of the 1978-79 Latin Club. The club met on the first Tues- day of every month. They sold spirit links made out of blue and white paper during this football season. They also sold t-shirts and jer- seys. They made and sold buttons for 75 cents each, sold and delivered valen- tines , dressing up like danc- ing valentines and cupids , and sold candy during Feb- ruary. They did all of these fund-raising activities to raise money for regional and state contest and conven- tions . Regional convention was on February 3 in Dobie High School in Pasadena. State convention was held on the fairgrounds in Dallas on March 8, 9, and 10. They attended the Pompeii exhibit that was brought from Italy. They took tests dealing with individual categories in Ro- man life, literature and lan- guage. ln the Olympic com- petition john Weaver won first in the 880 run. joey Paxton got fifth in the 100- yard dash, Keary Castle- berry won second in the broad jump and Anthony Corrales and Susan Spivey won fourth in the frisbee throw in their separate divi- sions . The team of john Weaver, joey Paxton, Billy Izard, and Keary Castle- berry won first in the 880- yard relay. They also put on a play in which Anthony Cor- rales, Becky Butler, jill Pat- ton and Teresa Donnell act- ed. Officers of the club were President Billy Izard, Vice- President Karen Stewart, Secretary Denise Dolezel, Historian Mindy Brock, and Treasurer jay Nowlin. 115
