FTA The 1971-72 school year saw the FTA members attend a fall District Conven- tion. Thirty students attended the State Convention in Dallas in Febru- ary. Each Month a Teacher of the Month was selected and in May a Teacher of the Year was taken from this group. G Medical Careers This year the Medical Careers Club tried to introduce members to the medical and para-medical professions. In the fall they did much Work on the Texas Association of Careers for Health Workshop. Members designed, made, and paid for the name tags, and assisted in stuffing the medical para- phernalia give-away bags. Professionals spoke at the workshop jointly spon- sored by BHS and Brazoswood. ln February the club visited the State School for Mentally Handicapped Chil- dren, and March they went to the Uni- versity ol' Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, and the Dialysis center there. They gained much information about kidney transplants and the kid- ney machine there.

Shipmates Last summer, eleven of the newly formed drill team attended camp at the University ol' llouston. Thcre they learns-rl basic fundamentals and termi- nology pertinent to drill teams and pep squads. Summer work sessions be- gan at BHS on 'Xngnst 2. The girls practiced every day for four hours. FI'4'SllIIlk1Il niemln-rs were chosen then. Ofl'iu:r try-outs were held and chosen by a panel ol' out-of-town judges. Tn Scptcinlier. the Shipmate Supporters were formed. Thr- purpose ol' this group was to aid the girls with props, fund raising activities and uniliorm nialiing. The Shiplnatcsi first perform- ance was at the llrazosport-Sprinlgh wood game. Their pom-porn routine to the tune ol' MSon of a Prcaclicr Klan? was given a standing ovation by the crowd.
