G Medical Careers This year the Medical Careers Club tried to introduce members to the medical and para-medical professions. In the fall they did much Work on the Texas Association of Careers for Health Workshop. Members designed, made, and paid for the name tags, and assisted in stuffing the medical para- phernalia give-away bags. Professionals spoke at the workshop jointly spon- sored by BHS and Brazoswood. ln February the club visited the State School for Mentally Handicapped Chil- dren, and March they went to the Uni- versity ol' Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, and the Dialysis center there. A couple of the English teachers tried some new methods in their classes. Mr. Bill Shaw, who teaches seniors, used tape cassettes to grade student composi- tions orally. This new idea took time, but proved effective. Mrs. Jane Pitkin, a new English teacher at BHS, began her teaching year by trying to develop group participation to give each class a sense of unity. Group work became more effective once walls between people were torn away. ACADEMICS-41
