Commencement Yes, it did rain on the night of May 18, 1972-a real frog strangler. For the first time in 15 years rain disturbed gradua- tion. liuckily, however, none ofthe graduates or their friends and relatives got wet, thanks to the good old neountry nosew of Dr. Bourgeois, not to mention a little thunder and lighten- ing. Things were set up at Hopper Field, and the speakers had begun, but the rains that had plagaied the last few weeks of school came again. Before the first drop fell all the graduates, spectators, band members, and equipment had moved to the sanctuary of the auditorium. When things were set up inside, the ceremony began again Class Speaker, Craner Ford, spoke urging his classmates to go on and make something of their lives. Guest speak- er, lVlrs. June Hyer, vice-president of academics for the University of Texas at San Antonio, gave a great speech addressing the 372 graduates, and never once facing the spectators. Her message was for the 226 young adults beginning a new chapter in life. 'Ls-ws 30-STUDENT LIFE 8 + J -:Wi av
