Change . . . 36 Traditional Blaze The signal is given and seniors rush to ignite the gasoline soaked heap of scrap wood, boxes and, here and there, a tire or two. Seniors unobtrusively brush away a tear and pretend the smoke has caused it all. This flaming spirit is the climax to many happy hours spent searching for ma- terial and collecting scrap lumber, sometimes in a most unorthodox manner. If we also collected a few memories along the way to cherish and perhaps laugh about in years to come, the adventures in the rain will seem even more worthwhile. With eyes slightly moist, seniors walk away, knowing in their hearts that this was surely the best bonfire that Brazosport High School could ever have. swafprIE? M , A A gggcwsnsn The 1963 Homecoming bonfire begins to burn. Cheerleaders lead the yells at the bonfire. Coach Cooper made his annual speech. The highlight of the bonfire was the flaming sign of the Chemistry Club. Use the card catalogue to find sources Students start with notes Research papers require a lot of reading. Finding a magazine article ian easy. Reading and still more reading. Planning to use all those books, Chn's? Researchitis Researchitis, that strange annual reoccuring disease, found its way among Brazosport students this year as usual. The main victims of this disease were seniors, but juniors and sophomores found fre- quent cases. It seemed to strike and leave its victims unable to attend classes the day before research papers were due. Many students found that one way to keep from contracting re- searchitis was to attend the library several nights before research papers were due. Others interviewed said that researchitis could also be prevented by carefully exercising the hand on note cards. Seriously though, seniors, juniors, and sophomores alike sighed with relief after turning in the tedious theme. Both students and teachers are busy at research paper time. E; Librarians are always glad to help. 4: It is 1:58 RM. The bell ending fifth period class rings and everyone is off to assembly. As- semblies are enjoyed by all because they are a rest from the day,s hectic routine and because this year they are held in the new auditorium. During the year there has been a great variety of programs. There were speeches, demonstrations, band and choir concerts, and a talent show which offered everything from a dramatic speech ton the preservation of the flea to some expert imitations of one of Britain,s top vocal groups, the Beatlw. Brazosport High School attends assembly. The band entertains Something New . . . . . . Assemblies 42 Students enjoy a demonstration by a representative of NASA. The colorful pos- ters in the halls, the friendly greetings of can- didates and the voting machines at the end of the hall mean iiVoting time is here? For a week or more students busily cam- paign. Small handbills are distributed and ex- cited groups gather to talk about their fa- vorites. Campaign speeches come at the end of the week as each candidate promises his best if elected. The climax follows when students cast their votes and anxiously wait. The tension mounts; the announcementeiiltis Marc and Johnny, the 1964-65 president and vice president? Run-off candidates Nadine Cochran and Tim Johnson with one of the many colorful campaign signs seen at election time. Ronald Taska leaves and Marc Raney takes over as Student Council President. No fair peeking! F an to Learn? Quo Modo? Esta es la mision de San Jose. Cena bona fuit. At Brazosport High School foreign languages are a very important part of the curriculum. Stu- dents are busy learning to read and write a whole new vocabulary. But, aside from their daily Class- work, language students take time to have fun. Whether it is putting on a French play, taking a Spanish trip, having a German party, or holding a Latin banquet, language students enjoy as they learn. All in all, the ttStairway t0 the Stars,, was a memorable ascent for jun- iors and seniors alike. Stars made up the biggest part of the decorations at the prom this year. Even teachers had dates to the prom. Everyone enjoyed the food at the prom. t0 the Stars Whaths in the box, Tim? Graduation . . . That wonder- ful7 long-anticipated night. The evening begins with a speech by Andy Sanson as Class Repre- sentative. After the address by guest speaker, Dr. M. T. Har- rington, comes the highlight, not only of this evening, but of three years of hard work. Diplomas are received by the Graduating Class of 1964. The band strikes tUchYlors,, and 362 estatic graduates race from the field in the traditional and final exit from Brazosport High School. A happy Terry Luke receives her diploma. Graduates are eager for the long-awaited diplomas. 56 Graduates leave in a group. It is the last time they will be together as a class. Dr. Jackson introduces Dr. M. T. Harrington, the guest speaker. The coaches look worried during a tense moment in the game. g. N. Two in a row for Roger! Safe Again! Victory They won! They won! This has been a cry heard often by Brazosport High School students since base- ball season began. The Exporter Baseball team piled up Victory after Victory until they became district champions after defeating Baytown in an exciting match. From there they go to pIay-off competition.
