TH BRAZIL ILY I' , , . VOL. XXXVI Brazil, Indiana May 18,1959 NO, 16 L BUSSING DEDICATES NEW HIGH SCHOOL The new Brazil Senior High School was dedicated this aft- ernoon by Mayor John E. Bussing, who had summoned his classmates of the Class of '49 to help with- the ceremony. Following the dedication a class reunion was held in the auditorium. The chairman of the entertainment committee was Mrs. Dolores Lister Rentschler whose husband, Dr. Jack Rentschler, is a well-known professor at the University of Chicago. The other committee members were Misses Vir- giania Kiser, Betty Sanderson, and Ruby Minnick. I Mrs. Betty Dowell Bell, famous composer, wrote a song especially for the occasion which was sung by Misses Rosalie Miller, Betty Smith, and Patricia Krampe. They were accompanied by Miss Patricia Atkinson. The audience was honored with the presence ofa two of Chicago's great speakers, Mr. Robert Boyd and Mr. Lester Garcia, who pre- sented an interesting discussion on Why We Are Bachelors. The celebrated Cuban dancer, Miss Dorothy Jane Hopper, held the guests spellbound with her fas- cinating rhumba dances. When asked to what she accredited her succes , she replied, I give all the credit to my former dance 'instruc- tor, Gaylia Dickersonl' The dance was followed by a short demonstra- tion of The Art of Making Love by Mr. Phillip Slack, who is known as the screen's greatest lover. Misses' Shirley Lalen, Constance Knapp, and Helen Burrell, employed as air hoatesses by T.W.A.-held an open discussion for airline host- esses. The reunion was officially closed by the Rev. Herman Emmert who led the group in prayer. Imme- diately after the closing Mr. Wm. Richard Houk, manager of the Citizen's Theatre Company, pre-. sented complimentary passes to all his classmates present. Many of the Class of '49 return- ed for the dedication. Dr. Jack Metz, dentist at Indianapolis, escort- ed a former Brazil girl, Miss Betty Donath, who is a nurse at the Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Robert Miller, the friendly under- taker, was present with Miss Olive Leitch. Miss Leitch is the harpist at the mortuary. Mr. Ronald J. Hooping-arner of television fame at- tended the dedication, but was un- able to remain for the reunion as he had to return to Kentucky for a broadcast. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Ell fSue Sinerlpwere here to say that their three children will be future yell leaders. Miss Suzanne Hunter, elementary teacher, stated that they are showing great progress and will be a credit to B.H.S. ALUMNAE RETURN Mrs. Dolores Lister Rentschler' and Misses Patricia Pell, isuzanne Hunter, Olive Leitch, Julia -Jean Gunnison donned' the garbof their high school days to take part in the dedication of the new building. SOCIETY NEWS At a recent meetingl of the Matron's Sewing Circle, Mrs. Gertrude .McCoy Bell was elected presiden-t of the organization for the coming year. Her campaign managers were Mrs. Marilyn Had- ley Waxler, and Mrs. Betty Pickett Kumpf. Other members present at the meeting were Mrs. Eloise Wil- liams Siner, Mrs. Eula' Reeves Evans, Mrs. Barbara Campbell Deakins, Mrs: Joan Gallezi Sneddon, and Mrs. Verla Watson Riggle. The Bee Ridge Ladies' Aid wishes to thank the townspeople for making their recent frummage sale a great success: Phyllis Brackney, Ellen Gard, Pearl Gar- rison, and Wanda Kuehl had charge of the sale. Page 85l l FAMOUS ENTERTAIN- ERS WILL PRESENT PROGRAM Next Monday evening, May 28, 8 P.M., on the stage of the Cooper theatre, Brazil will be honored with the presence of several famous entertainers, all graduates of B.H. S. in the class of '49. The main event of the evening will be shortened presentation of Lady MaeBeth. Miss Joanne Evans will be shown in the leading role. Other Brazilians in the company are Patricia Pell in charge of make-up and Miss Dorothy Thomas as wardrobe director. One of the feature attractions will be Mr. Arden Wade, the fam- ous vaudeville comedian. Mr. Wade's stage career began with High School where he was end man for stunt nights. B FAN FOUND IN CURIOUS CUCUMBER Norman Emmett and Harold Knox, joint owners of the large Knem farm south of the city, shave announced that a large cu- cumber curved like a B grew in their garden. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Price of this city announced that their daughter plans to graduate from Business College this spring with a certificate of a Certified Public Accountant. With her training and the experience she has gained these past years, she is assured of a pros- perous career.
