GQJS jfsfory The excrted freshman class of 1955 56 started on therr adventurous trrp of gorng through the four years of hrgh school wrth the enrollment of 197 students Because there were so many of us we were drvrded rnto four sectlons under the supervrsron Mrs H B Thompson Mrss S L Townsend Mr L F Bowens and P F Barton Durrng therr frrst year rn hrgh school many of the freshmen partrcrpated 1n varrous actrvrtres Some of them were as follows The Dramatrc Club Glee Club Band Basketball Football N H A and N F A Clubs the Student Councrl and the Journal Staff Our Freshman year was full of excrtement and adventures and before we knew rt our year as Freshmen had ended and we were ready to begrn our year as Sophomores We started our year as Sophomores wrth the enrollment of 136 students Agam we were drvrded rnto sectrons Thrs trme we were under the supervrston of Mrss S L Townsend Mr J A Wrlder and Mr P F Barton Agarn many of our classmates partrcrpated rn many extracurrrcular actrvrrres Durmg our Sophomore year Laura Shrelds from New York Jorned us Agarn the year passed very qurckly and we were ready for our year as Junrors Durmg our Junror year we were drvrded rnto two sectrons Our advrsors were Mrss L Y Lassrter and Mr P F Barton To us the Jumor Sen1or prom was the brggest event of the year On the nrght of the prom the audrtorrum was beautrfully decorated w1th a lrghted moon surrounded by roses whrch carrred out the theme Moonlrght and Roses We danced to the musrc of the Rhythm Rockets from Rocky Mount N C and everybody enjoyed the nrght of fun When school re opened the followrng fall 82 students were enrolled 1n the Seruor class Durmg our Senror year we were d1v1ded rnto two sectrons under the Supervrsron of Mrs H B Thompson and Mrss V S A Edwards We went to work rmmedrately In order to prepare ourselves for problems that mrght confront us both sectrons of the class selected and orgamzed class offrcers They were as follows Sectlon A Presrdent James Evans Vrce Presrdent James Savage Secretary Esther Jones Assrstant Secretary Thema Smrth Treasurer Elesta Dancy Sectron B offrcers were Presrdent Frances Dancy Vrce Presrdent Walter C Smrth Secretary Hattre Smrth and Treasurer Joyce F Brantley We realrze that we are gettrng closer to our destrnatron although as senrors we strll have qurte a few responsrbrlmes to face We know that rn order to attarn our goal we must strrve to marntarn a certarn average The Sen1or class of 1958 59 hopes to achreve success and progress as rt has rn the prevrous years . . , of ,.. .... , .. . . . .... , , , . .... . . , . . ll oil I 1 - ' I . - I .
