I2 Advancing Upward Many times we find ourselves at the point of giving up because we feel we can't fulfill the task we have set for ourselves. Throughout my four years in high school there were plenty of times when 1 felt ready to give up. But thanks to my parents and teachers, I never quit. They helped me to understand that it was important for me to fulfill many tasks because it was these same tasks that would eventually help me to advance upward. As a junior the one thing I dreaded the most in Mrs. Brown's English class was her famous speedwrites. Now I'm grateful to her because through the speedwrites l've embelished my writing skills. After four years of math there were many times when I felt like throwing my books away! I would sit down and think, Who cares what 4x - Clx - 55 + 3 + Cx - 75 equals! Now I see that these courses which l disliked so much and which seemed so insignifi- cant at the time, have turned out to be well worth my time and energy. Now as I look back l realize how right my parents and teachers were. l'd like to thank them for their faith in me and for their support. For without those two things I wouldn't have accom- plished my goals or attained the knowledge that I have today, iiflliv VU'- Hernan Rivas Gina Rivera ivt Cynthia Rodriguez David Romero

Through the Years What are four years in high school? They are what you make of them. Mine all began when l was a freshman. lt was what you might call a typical, boring freshman year where you concen- trate mainly on adapting to high school. My sophomore year was much better and I felt much more confident. l dedicated myself to academics and sports. Also l made some true friends during this year. Then my junior year was still even better. The memories of my senior year are still in the making but l'm certain they'll live up to my expectations, especially now that l have my own car! Through the years we make many friends and sometimes lose close friends, but for all of them we have to keep going. If you set your sights toward something - go for it! Don't hold back! if Seniors 8
