Both con- ferences are a week long with Boy's SIBIB Amy Crittendon preceding Girl's State. During the week long conferences, all those attending become involved in setting up their group own state government. The entire is devided into counties and cities. City, county and state elections are held and individuals are chosen by the citizens to hold different of- fices. Being chosen to attend these con- ferences is a real honor as only one junior girl and three junior boys from each high school in the state of California are allowed to partici- pate. lt is an unforgettable experience which can only be understood by those who are fortunate enough to go. Not only do they learn about their state government, they also make lifelong friends and learn the true value of understanding and caring. As one GirI's State counselor put it, We learn the true meaning of unconditional love. The i986 Girl's State Representative was Amy Crittendon. Steven Veysey , aa. It was highlighted by exotic and entertaining booths which was held on Saturday March I4 from 9-I2 p.m. The booths were filled with food and games which included. Dart Throw Basket- ball Shoot Pie Throw and Bean Bag Toss. The winners of the Toga dress-up contest were Chris Rackley and Darci Foster. Above left: Matt Rathbun gets slapped by a pie on the face. Above right: Marriage followed by divorce made for a fun booth. Left: Deanna Ramos spots a person she wants in jail for ten minutes. Bottom left: Upward Bound girls sell na- chos.
