The club raises money to grant scholarships to its graduat- ing Seniors. They also use the funds for field trips where often times they meet new people and cre- ate lasting friendships. Mrs. Gloria Nogales-Talley is the club s advisor and un- der her guidance the mem- bership has grown to the largest ever there by mak- ing the club the most active in B.U.H.S. Migrant Club history. AFS Led The Way For Change XXI The American Foreign Service Club is an active part of the B.U.H.S. ASB activities as evidenced in the membership pictured above. Under the advisorship of Mr. David Kopperud and the leadership of President Derek Pate the club had a successful year. AFS Club AFS lnternationalflntercultural Programs is a nongovernmental, nonprofit, interna- tional organization dedicated to peace through the promotion of worldwide in- tercultural Iearning and living exper- iences of secondary students and fam- ilies from all walks of life. Last summer we had one Brawley AFS student, Yolanda Cardenas, visit Brazil: while another student, Ahn Minh Do went to Tunisia. This school year we hosted a student, Aurora Gomez, from the Domini- can Republic. Aurora Iived with Chrissy Decker and her family. For Cattle Call weekend, the AFS Club hosted Karla Ma- ria Acosta from Honduras, Mr. Seio Naka- jima from Japan, Deniz Celik from Tur- key, Kenneth' Rafkin from Finland, Mi- chelle Brugh from New Zealand, Annie Bi- gras from Canada, Andrea Sasunic from Yugoslavia, and Denise Lang from Swit- zerland. The club completes several projects yearly: they provide the pooper-scooper service for the Cattle Call Pa- rade. money and supplies for Pioneer Memorial Hospital, and food and clothing for a nearby orphanage in Baja California, Mexico. Also this year they sponsored Radio Day at KSIO, and their first annual Lip Sinc Contest and Dance. Both events were a huge success. These activities raised enough money to go on an end-of-year field trip.
