i Q N-ff English I am happy and proud to be a part of the B.U.H.S. English Department. Our department is currently at an optimum level of professional growth and enthusiasm. The enfusion of new teaching techniques, new department members, and two excel- lent mentor projects have helped to create a professional ambi- ance that is both stimulating and gratifying. This is a good time to be a teacher of English in the state of California. The curriculum has changed from one which empha- sized grammar and rote memorization of literary terms, to one which emphasizes learning about our culture through the read ing of and writing about great works of literature Literature of all genres is a great ioy to me and I can think of no higher privilege or pleasure than to spend a life time Invest ing others with the same ioy I love teaching' By Mrs Davlda Brown umztswtft

Cross Pharmacy onsored by: White Page sp Varied Options in a Fascinating World The Science Department has grown faster than any other department at B.U.H.S. during the past four years. Why? Because California law now requires high school students to complete two years of science before they can graduate. Presently there are eight science teachers where there used to be three. One would think that more students taking science would mean more kinds of science classes but it hasn t worked out that way as yet. There are physical science life science biology chemistry and phys- ics classes available. When the present science building was constructed, it was one of the best. But it has outgrown its usefulness and it is soon to be remodeled and refinished. California legislature has made funds for this purpose and an architect is working with our school to make plans to improve the science facilities. There are a lot of positive changes in the science department- both in courses and facilities. We're working hard to make it even better!
