The Varsity Girls Basketball Team was impressive this year, finishing off with an overall record of 11-5 and a season record of 7-3. The girls took 2nd in league and went to the CIF playoffs where they were defeatdd in first round play. Coach Clover commented, I was happy with our season and even though we didn't go as far as we would have liked in CIF play, we have 5 returning varsity players and a lot of talent on JV so we should be a force in the league next year. Two girls on the team were named all-league: Junior Alisa Schnittker and Sophomore Tricia Hopkins. The graduating Seniors - Lisa Guynes, 3 years varsity, Karla Or- donez, 2 years varsityg and Carol Rubio, 2 years varsity - will be missed, but the Girls Basketball winning tradition will be carried on. The members of the 1985 Varsity Girls Basketball Team were: Lisa Guynes, Carol Rubio, Hilda Alexander, Alisa Schnittker, Tricia Hopkins, Karla Ordonez, Toni Sullivan, Tammy McKissick, Coach Vernon Clover, ifrontj scorekeeper Suzi Myers and manager Sylvia Laguna. - A Rough Season For Boy's Varsit This year's varsity team looked very promising during pre-season, when they took 2nd in the El Centro Tournament, but just couldn't overcome their prob- lems during league. The team ended up with a league record of 1-9. This record didnlt do the team justice. There was a lot of talent on the team, but the right combination of these skills was not to be found this year. 'tCollectively we improved tremendously as a team and as individuals in our bas- ketball skills, said first year coach, Mark McCleave. The players realized there is more to the game than running and shooting. The team has seven players returning next year and should be a leading team in the DVL.
