Young Varsity Team Comes Except for the players and the coaches, Xen Jones and Teri Wood, no one expected the young Varsity Volleyball team to do as well as they did this year. Young teams are generally inexperi- enced and not able to play well together. This year's team, consisting of two Seniors, five Ju- niors and two Sophomores, broke this stereotype f and showed everyone how much talent they had. The team, with an overall record of 13 wins and 5 losses, ranked in the top 16 of S.C.I.F. 2A play at the end of the season and gave some stiff competition to some excellent teams. The squad also had two girls named to the all-league team: Cami Jones and Tricia Hopkins. Coach Jones was happy with the season, but he is busy thinking of next year. 'KWe will win league next year and we will give teams in C.I.F. play a good scare if we don't take it all, predicts Jones. If we d0n't win league after the majority of the team playing together for two years, I give up. The two Seniors on the team, Lynn Corpuz and Lisa Perez, will not be around to participate in all this predicted excitement, but they will be missed. Lisa, with her all around court hustle and Lynn, with her consistent setting were a very important part of the team. .V. Volleyball: Learning Experienc The Junior Varsity Volleyball Team was very impressive this year and showed a lot of potential for years to come. The basis for a J.V. team is to familiarize girls with the game of volleyball and to have a good time. This year's team took this basis one step farther: they were very competitive, learned very quickly and by the end of the season were playing a consistent game of pass-setfhit. Starting hitters Adrienne Reyes, Tammy McKissik and Corina Singh were very successful this year, thanks to the good setting of Marisol Marin and Camille Smith. Extra hustle and talent were supplied by all the girls, but stan- douts were: Cynthia Vasquez, Sharon Spates, Lori Hoffe man and Lucy Garcia. All the girls, especially the bench, should be commended for their team spirit and support of the other team players.
