The Junior Plag Combined Romance The Junior class chose to perform Stage Door by Edna Ferber and George Kaufman on April 5 and 6. Voted one of the ten best on Broadway, in the 1936-37 season, this lively comedy was brought up-to-date by this year's Junior class. Set in a residential club for show busi- ness girls, the play concerns the lives and loves of the manyi occupants, who are watched over by Mrs. Orcutt, lMelinda Ogdenl the landlady, herself an ex-actress. It is a story of conflicting ideals , the personality of Terry Randall, lBarbara Butlerl a talented actress, dedicated to the legiti- mate stage, but frequently unemployed and that of Jean Maitland, lMarci Pilattil less endowed with histrionic ability, but of more spectacular appearance, are set in opposition. Jean allows herself to be wooed and won , by the bright lights and high salaries of the Movie Kingdom, but Terry sticks it out in New York. Keith Burgess, lHarolcl Fifieldl in the beginning an idealistic playwright, writ- ing for the masses, is also dazzled by Holly- wood. His counterpart, David Kingsley, lRon- nie Robinsonl originally a picture man, re- turns eventually to his first love, the stage. Brisk dialogue, and sharp characterization brought life and fun to this production and the Junior class must be complimented for their fine interpretation. :Sf if l'-tif, its so Q, ,..
