The Southwest Has Become The immortal saying, Go west, young man, go west, has been the advice taken by Californians. The United States, once the melting pot of the world, now has the South- west as the melting pot of the United States. The product of this melting is the unique personage of the southwest, the Californian. These people are filled with determination and initiative, the spirit of the Southwest. This year the school is centered around spiritp the spirit of the land and of the people. Spirit of the land is the unique diversification of southern California, in the desert and the mountains, only minutes apart. The spirit of the people is what we have at Brawley Union High School, To this we dedicate the 1967-T968 La Ocotilla. The Junior College building shows a touch ofthe Southwest, 3 . 1 Sf- . The modern Southwest is always on the move, expanding and in- creasing. Brawley Union High School has expanded and increased with it. This year was a year for growth at Brawley Union High School, Dur- ing the summer, a new shop com- plex was completed, located at the northeast corner of the campus. Junior and senior car owners were pleased to find that the school park- ing lot was paved with asphalt. The student body will not forget the dust and broken glass which was often found in and on their cars. Space for sixty-five cars was avail- able upon completion in early Octo- ber. The athletic department acquired another practice field giving the coaches more practice area. Two prefabricated buildings for continuation school have been built at Warne Field so young adults can have a chance to keep pace with todays modern world.
