Honored At Banquet 'eo iso S. Pat Patterson, Arizona Western Coach, and Bob Dowden, former C.I F. champion from Brcwley looked at Gilbert Mendez' trophy with envy. l . -I -S A TIE- 'Ts Q. Having finished his dinner, Les Tucker eyed Ernie Robles pie. Sponsored By Robert and Alicia Tcecker Mix Larry Dobbins l.l V.i and Gilbert Mendez lvarsityl caught the Outstanding Wrestling Award. BUHS placed l8th in C.l.F. because ot Gilbert Mendez, Gilbert placed second in C.l.F. and received ten paints. At the Bravvley Wrestling Banquet he was named most out- standing wrestler. Xavier Ruiz and Keith Smith were elected co-captains-tor the Varsity. Xavier also received the best sports- man award and tied tor the most takedovvns. Keith received the award for the tastest pin, which was in 22 seconds. Paul Arauio received the award tor the most escapes, and Fidel Torres for the rnost reversals. With ten underclassmen from the tirst-string returning, Bravvley can expect to dominate Southern Cali- fornia next year. The three wrestlers from the lst string that graduated are Lee Tucker, Mark Rutledge, and Gerald Morse. The Freshmen had an outstanding season, with David Willingham being the outstanding wrestler, Gary No- blitt, Steve Jack, and Eddie Rodri- guez were excellent wrestlers. 20

Coach Len Schmitker, who has en- ioyed two championship teams while coaching the Freshman and J.V., is, now coaching the Varsity Cats. The Cats have a young team with six iuniors, one sophomore and two seniors on the starting lineup. Ralph Acuia winds up with his famous curvee ball, Our Cats got att to a sluggish start this season, with errors hurting their performances.
