This club studies politics and how it is run. Though not all of these Junior Statesmen will become President of the United States, the experience of working with the government will prepare them, if tor nothing else, to vote with more intelligence in future elections. One of the most important events that the Junior Statesmen attend is the convention at Asilomar every year. Last year they held a mock election to show them the principles ot an election. The A.F.S. student who has en- ioyed this experience was Glenda Sharp of New Zealand, Glenda made her American home with Mr. and Mrs. Carl Williams and family. A.F,S. was guided by President Bruce van Dam, As in previous years, numerous proiects were proposed and carried out. In the fall the wel- come reception for the three valley foreign exchange students was held, as well as hosting them at the Cattle Call and the Christmas party. The club sponsored the Brawley- Kofa J.V. Football game, held an A.F.S. Tag Week, and Annual sign- ing party to raise money for next year's foreign exchange student. Avid members of the Spanish IV class which were also members ot the Foreign Language Club, ioure neyed on a cultural exchange trip to Mexico at Easter. Money was raised by the class by selling tickets to a beef rattle . They were sponsored by the Women's Auxiliary ot Brawley.
