tx Mark Taylor concentrates on winning his event. Kirk Brace brings in points from the Diving Competition. i. Swimmer starts off with a BANG ! Dennis Belkot takes the lead in the Breast Stroke. he 1983 Boys Swim team had a tremen- dous season. Their months of hard work, practice, and dedication payed off. Under the supervision of Coach Goldstein and team Captain Pat Valent the boys had one victory after another, giving us an undefeated season. The win of the season came during the last home meet. Competition was at its peak as Allderdice, our arch rival came to swim. Since both teams had an undefeated season this was the meet of the year. The score was close all throughout the meet with Allderdice having a slight lead. Because of a few Allderdice disquali- fications and our terrific relay team, the boys proved victorious. This was Allderdice's first loss in fourteen years. The boys came out in second place after the City Championship with Allderdice keeping the city title. Our 400 yard relay team also broke a city record this year. This team consisted of Pat Valent, Bob Schreiber, Erik Ellenberger, and Alex Colvin. We also captured many Gold, Sil- ver, and Bronze medals during the champion- ship. Another star swimmer was Mark Taylor, his events were the Butterfly and the Breast stroke.

It's also concentra- tion, endurance, and planning. fClockwise from bottomj Linda congratulates Brooke while Ginny takes time out to rest. The most important sound at a swim meet is that of the starting gun. It can mean the difference between a victory and a false start possibly costing needed points. Linda anx- iously awaits its loud discord. Miss Connolly times the swim- mers as Danielle and jennifer try to break their own records, 1 he 1983 Girls Swim Team had a good year. With the help and encouragement of Coach Patricia Connolly, the team had a memorable season. They started practicing in November and kept practicing until January, when their meets began. The team had many more swimmers than last year, but still was not large. They had a few returning swimmers and many with only three losses. These defeats were tog Allderdice, Peabody, and Carrick. Many of the girls had a good year. Sharon Majewicz broke many records and took a bronze medal in City. This year's team captain was Jennifer Seaman who had been on the team for four consecutive years. This years sportsmanship award went to Brooke Kotchig who also took a bronze medal in City. Their were no divers on the team this year, which made the wins even better and the meets harder with no points coming in for diving. In the meet the girl's captured fourth place and took two bronze medals. This year was interrupted by illnesses on the team. Many girls became sick with colds, flus, and even a broken foot. This hampered their season, but they still came out with a good placing. Coach Connolly has high hopes for next year. Although the experience of return- ing players is important, she hopes to have a larger team. We thank this years team for a good season and look forward for an even better year next year. 69
