Taking a look at the local scene . Events at Point State Park. Point State Park has given every Pittsburgher an opportunity for enjoyment. The Three Rivers Art Festival attracts a large group of people that come to admire the displays and artistry of oth- ers. They also offer people the chance to buy some of the wood crafts. The Regatta offers days of amusement for every- one. They have hot air baloons races, divers, clowns, and boat races. People enjoy the differ- ent events throughout thie day or take cruises on the Gateway Clipper. They also offer nights of relaxation by listening to music by live bands. Have you had your shots? This year all students in the Pittsburgh Public Schools were asked to make sure their immunization records were com- plete. The Health Department set up clinics all over Pitts- burgh at convenient locations for those students still requir- ing shots. Any student not to follow this procedure would be expelled from school starting the 24th of January. They would nor be permitted to return until their records were complete. Most of Brashear students did not have to worry with only a few having to be escorted out of the building. Hopefully, this will help to control diseases in the future. It happened this year in Pittsburgh: Lynn Swann retires . . . Hazelwood and J SL L Steel mills close . . . Willie Stargell retires . . . unemployment reaches 1276 . . . Art Rooney's wife dies . . . drunk driving code is in affect . . . Pirates sell 49Zp of stock to Warner Cable Co. Brashear Bullets defeat the Westinghouse Bulldogs in the City Championship Game. Unemployment of Steel Workers soars to unbeliev- able heights. Pittsburgh hosts the U. S. Figure Skating Competi- tion February 2-6, 1983. Pittsburgh sports take a TURN FOR THE WORST. Starting off the Pittsburgh sports year was the Pirates with a bad season that didn't quite get them to the play-offs. Next in line was the Steel- ers who started off with a great season. They did well until the National Football Strike. When the playing resumed after a 8 week strike they could not recapture their previous glory. They ended their season by losing in the Ist play off game. Finally was the Pittsburgh Penguins who are told to go back to basics. They now carry the last place title.
