HERON9 Brantley County High School Nahunta, Georgia Volume XI BEGINNING . . . There once was a word called “Spirit at Brantley County High School. All were infected with this vitality. As our teams began to falter, our enthusiasm failed also. Now everyone has come to realize that the spirit comes before the team to boost their morale. This is the beginning spirit of our school. How will it end? . . . Arc you sure Aunt Jemima started out this way? Let's see . . . Left then Right. Angie said that Steve said that Dee said that Jeff said . . . Now let's not have any illegal use of hands, you guys. I still don't know why they picked me to do this commercial. I guess we taught them a thing or two. They said it was the best way to go! HEY BABE I'M C OOL No Becky. I think he’s w inking at me. 7 I wonder if she’s thinking about me? Where’d you say that hole is? What a neat picture! You have the right to remain silent. Now once again. This is the way . . . Sofi and silky. I just washed my hair and 1 can't do a thing with it. Kids will he kids. You say that once more and I’ll belt you! I think I’m going to be sick. JUST ONE MORE TIME! 10 Mr. Eugene Wiley As the years slowly pass, we finally become Seniors — then our Senior year becomes the past. You have taught us to accept our failures as well as our successes. When we fialed, you lifted us and when we succeeded, you rejoiced with us. As the present will soon become the past, we the Seniors of 1978, say thank you and dedicate this annual to you. Brantley County School Superintendent I Janies S. The Aim and Purposes The primary aim of the Future Farmers of America is the development of agricultural leadership, cooperation, and citizenship. The specific purposes for which this or- ganization was formed are as follows: 1. To develop competent, aggressive, rural, and agricultural leadership. 2. To create and nurture a love of country life. 3. To strengthen the confidence of students of vocational agricul- ture in themselves and their work. 4. To create more interest in the intelligent choice of agricultural occupations. 5. To encourage members in the development of individual farm- ing programs and establishment in agricultural careers. 6. To encourage members to improve the farm home and its surroundings. 7. To participate in worthy undertakings for the improvement of agriculture. 8. To develop character, train for useful citizenship, and foster patriotism. iii iii ::: ::: ::: ::: :: ::: ::: ::: ::: Mr. Huey R. Ham Advisor 9. To participate in cooperative effort. 10. To encourage and practice thrift. 11. To encourage improvement in scholarship. 12. To provide and encourage the development recreational activities. LEARNING TO DO DOING TO LEARN EARNING TO LIVE LIVING TO SERVE The National Emblem of the Future Farmers of America is signifi- cant and meaningful in every detail. Used by members in all recognized units of the organization, it is made up of five symbols: the owl, the plow, and the rising sun. within the cross section of an ear of corn, which is surmounted by the American eagle. Upon the face of the emblem appear also the words. “Vocational Agriculture.” and the letters. “FFA.” The owl is symbolic of wisdom and knowledge: the plow is the symbol of labor and tillage of the soil: the rising sun is emblematic of progress and the new day that will dawn when all farmers are trained and have learned to cooperate; the cross section of an ear of corn represents common agricultural interests since corn is nati e to America and grown in every State: and the eagle is indicative of the national scope of the organization. 131 Students’ Voice OFFICERS: Editor — Annette Rainge Co-Editor — Kathy Ham Business Manager — Kathy Patten Lay Out Editor — Wayne Sims Photographer — Becki Ferguson President — Cheryl Griffin Girls Vice-Pres. — Sissie Tomlinson Boys Vice-Pres. — Dewayne Herrin Sec. and Treas.
