Mrs. Lee, you have brightened not only our days, but many other's days as well here at Brantley County High School. You perform your job each day to a degree which is above the expectations placed upon you. Even though we very seldom show it, we appreciate your hard work; but, most of all, we appreciate the won- derful person you are. You always have a warm smile and a cheery greeting for everyone. When we discuss our problems, you always have a solution. It is impossible to put into words all that you mean to us, as everyone who knows you will understand. May God always bless you with everything a wonderful person like you deserves from life. 12 mmm m, ■mm mm Board of Education (left to right) EDWARD BRAND, C. D. C., and stopped in at the White House to see the President, Curtis Rainge, and the Vice-President, Allison Chambless. They were both so excited to see us that they took us by Rebecca Wainright’s Doughnut Shop, and Shirleen Lee was waitress. It started getting late so we decided to go to the Smith International Airport, owned by Kay Smith. Kay said, since the President and Vice-President were boarding with us, we could have a free flight. We boarded the plane and our pilot, Tim Nunley, and co-pilot, Andy Harris, greeted us aboard. We took our positions and in walk the stewardesses, Mary Pearson and Kay Mercier. They brought us our afternoon meal prepared by Marcus Bohannon. After a three-hour flight, we landed at the Manning Airport in Brantley County, owned by Joey Manning. Stepping off the plane, Allison and Curtis, guarded by Gary White and Jon Jones, make their appearance to the mass crowd giving individual speeches that were being broadcast by Sonya Bass. Sheriff Irving Nix and his five deputies, Pat Patten, Larry Crews, Rickey Carrecker, Blake Lloyd, and John Middleton pushed crowds back and Mayor Gary Strickland makes his grand appearance while photographer A1 Schmitt takes pictures for Altman Enterprises, owned and operated by Debbie Altman. After the speeches, Jimmy Walker's Cab Service sent over their finest cab, driven by Paul Langford. Paul was known as a driver who could drive through the worst traffic. We decided to go to the Hoboken Mall, owned by Robert Thomas, and managed by Beverly Montague, with assistant manager, Barbara Gunter. While sightseeing the mall, we saw Diane Shuman washing windows and Susan Riggins doing her job as custodian. We stopped by Toothman's Snack Bar, owned by Patty Toothman, managed by Esther Brauda. We ate delicious home- made pie baked by Vivian Wilson. The President, seeing some shoes in Jahn Purcell's Footwear, decided to go in and buy them. Surprisingly, the salesman, Albert Hall, gave Curtis the shoes. Going out of the shoe store we bumped into demonstraters demonstrating against work, headed by Lou Ann Lee, with her faithful followers Linda Aldridge, Ernest Cobb, Leslie Baker, Denease O’Berry, Charles Corbitt, Gwen Richardson, Marilyn Blake, and Cary Dykes. We listened to their sad stories while the policemen, Robert Chancey, Paul Velie, and Gene O'Neal, put them in a paddy wagon driven by Jeff Lee. Coming out of the mall, we saw Larry Daniels, Larry Rhoden, James Wilson, 56 and Wayne Woodall staggering out of Mike Wainright’s Bar. Getting into the cab we cruise on down to Mary Lynn's Nursing Home and visit the head nurses, Barbara Lee and Sandra Sapp. This made our two guests depressed so we decided to change the atmosphere by taking them to the Hickox Beach. There we saw Melba Allen, Joy Haynes, and Sabrina Sloan fishing for their supper. We came upon two old shacks and Jimmy Steedley and Amber Sloan walked out of one and told us they had chosen beach bumming as their career. Their neighbors, two old maids, Rosa Edwards and Gwen Jacobs, were out of town. By now it was 9:00 and we knew that Nahunta would be swinging by now so we swung on down to Stevens' Starlite Nightclub, owned and operated by Richard Stevens himself. As we listened, Chuck Crosby and Mike Stone took our wraps and hats. Barry Bean guides us to our tables, where Billy Wyatt brings our menus. After deciding what we wanted, Mary Alice Stevens, the waitress, came and took our orders. After supper everyone being pleased, the lights dimmed, and the bunnies, Wilma Morgan, Evelyn Carter, and Merrell Tripp, came by selling cigarettes shipped from Rufus Douglas' tobacco plantation. Then, the all-girl orchestra, consisting of Cheryl Smith, Mary Davis, Paula Lee, Kathy Moody, and Wanda Johns, played famous songs composed by Charles Chesser. As the curtains opened, the introductor, Mike Edenfield, introduced the singer, the one and only, Debra Thrift! After the performance was over, we got up to leave, passed the bar, and got one last drink, served by bartender Tony Floyd. Now at 1:00 we decided that we should find a hotel to spend the night. The best hotel we could find was the Skyline, run by Judy Rowell. She was very pleased to have us as guests and got us the best rooms. As we were waiting, the maids, Barbara Smith and Juanita Herrin, prepared our rooms. Before retiring for the night, we decided to watch the late show starring Margaret Cato and Stanley Manning. The next morning we ate breakfast at Gwen Murphy's Cafeteria. The waitress, Pam Jacobs, served us eggs from Glen Hickox’s Egg Farm. Breakfast was delicious and it was time for Curtis and Allison to depart. We went to the airport and bought two tickets to Washington from Brenda Guinn, the ticket agent. Before the President and Vice-President boarded the plane, they were stopped and asked for their autographs by Perry Rhoden. As we watched the plane take off, we'll never forget the President's last words, Boy, time sure changes things!'' (continued on page 150) 125 ANNUAL STAFF Editor - SONYA BASS EIITGITS COMMENTS I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped to make this annual possible, especially Mrs. Marie Sutton. Now it is easy to look back and see how things might have been done differently and possibly even better, but I am sure that this is true of many things. I feel that everyone who became involved with this yearbook did their best to make this an annual each of you would be proud to own as a keepsake capable of bringing back many wonderful memories of your 1972-73 school year. 126 Photographer - AL SCHMITT Jr. Co-Editors - KAREN LEE SCOTT FERGUSON KATHRYN SCHMITT Layout Managers - BARBARA SMITH PAM JACOBS Business Managers - WILMA MORGAN ALLISON CHAMBLESS Advisor - MRS.
