DEDICATION TO MRS. GRACE JOINER Here we are at the close of another school year, but for we seniors, it is the end of a long but cherished journey from elementary through high school. As we reminisce on our past, we realize that without the help of many concerned and patient people, we wouldn't be standing where we are now. However, one particular person stands out most in the minds and thoughts of our senior class. This person has made many contributions to our class through her help and cheerful attitude. As juniors, she helped us to smooth out the rough spots in the planning of our Junior-Senior Prom. With kind and reassuring words, she helped to calm the girls' tense and excited nerves at the Beauty Pageants. But most of all, she always kept an open mind and expressed her honest opinion when we needed it most, such as with the preparing of our 1970-71 HERON .Asa sponsor, she gave her devoted help and concern with our yearbook. However, we most of all thank her for just being herself ... a teacher capable of making any subject interesting and fun to learn; and a friend with an outstanding personality which reflects a glowing warmth, friendliness, and sincerity. With our sincere love and respect, we, the Senior Class of 1971 dedicate THE 1970-71 HERON to Mrs. Grace Joiner.

Ad Salesmen SPONSORS We, the annual staff, would like to thank our sponsors who were of much help to us. They helped us to create many origi- nal ideas and to bring them to reality in our theme, layout and choice of pictures. They always gave us an honest opinion of our work and ideas. They were always there to help us when we needed them most. Without these three sponsors, Mr. Herndon, Mr. Thomas, and Mrs. Joiner, it would have been very difficult to pre- pare this 1970-71 Heron. We give our sin- cere appreciation to each of them. Layout Staff

Superintendent Mrs. Mable Moody PRINCIPAL OF B.C.H.S. Mr. A. L. Sutton The definition of a mascot is an animal which is sup- posed to bring good luck by being present. Our school mas- cot is the heron which we are very proud of. The heron was chosen because of its originality and has definitely been an outstanding mascot throughout the football and basketball season. Now, let's probe into the background history of a heron . . . The heron's long neck, long bill, and expression of constant surprise combine to give the heron an appearance which, once seen, is not likely to be forgotten. The heron is further famous for a greedy appetite, always being hun- gry. While fishing for a meal, the heron acquires a quiet pose of standing like a statue until his prey appears. Herons usually group together in colonies. They are also noted for their beautiful plumage and without mercy men have hunt- ed this lovely bird to take from it, their beautiful plumage. We, the students at Brantley County High, are a repre- sentation of the heron and its way of life. Brantley County is our nest in which we group together in colonies, the dif- ferent classes being the various colonies. Some of the mis- chievous herons cause constant surprise to teachers but, the expression of surprise switches to their face when they are nervously waiting to see Mr. Sutton in the office. Our greedy appetite is to beat the opponent in all sports, and activities. We hunger for success in all phases of competition. Then we are released into the world! Here, we must ap- ply our skill and knowledge to survive.
