Superintendent’s Comment To the Seniors of 1969 It is trite to remind you that you face a most challenging era. Your young lives have been a challenge to us adults. We have strived to give you the opportunities conducive to good learning so that you could develop skills to assist you in solving problems which are necessary to your well-being. There are certain basic virtues one needs to acquire in order to live happily and lead useful lives. They are: kindness, sincerity, honesty, under- standing, love, compassion. The great humanitarian. Dr. Albert Schweitzer, said, Whatever you have received more than others: in health, in talents, in success, in abilities, in a pleasant child- hood, in harmonious conditions of home life; all this you must not take to yourself as a matter of course, you must pay a price for it. You must render in return an unusually great sacrifice of your life for other lives.” I am grateful for the privilege that has been mine to work with you. This association has greatly enriched my life. Very sincerely, Mrs. Mable R. Moody Board Of Education STANDING: Edward Brand, C. D. Gibson, Robert Hunter, SEATED: E. G. Fowler, Mable Moody, John Lee.

Dedication 12 We, the Senior Class of 1969, dedicate our annual, THE HERON, to Mr. Pat Thornton. Mr. Thornton, you strive to keep our school clean, comfortable, and attractive and this means so much to students, although we don’t always show it. You greet students, co-workers, and the faculty with a pleasing smile and a warm personality, which makes it possible for all of us to feel so close to you. You will forever be remembered at Brantley County High School for your willingness to work and your responsible attitude toward the upkeep of our beautiful school that we are all so proud of. We are truly grateful too for your never-ending efforts to keep our school and its surroundings as you do. It makes it enjoyable for us to come to school and makes learning a more pleasant task. So to you, Mr. Thornton, from the Senior Class of 1969, we dedi- cate THE HERON, hoping that these words may express our feeling of deep appreciation that we have for you.

Principal’s Comment Curriculum Director MRS. RUTH DAVIS As this is being written, our school year is well past the half-way mark and we cannot realize how short the remaining days will be. For many of you it will mark the end of any kind of formal education. For others it will be the end of the first milestone. We have had a very good school year, and on behalf of the entire faculty I wish to thank you. This is your school and you are largely responsible for the kind of school we have. We, the faculty, are interested in you, especially in the caliber of work that you do. Too many are satisfied with just getting by in their work. Now is the time to help yourself to the great oppor- tunity you have to get a good education. If you need help, ask your teachers for some extra time. They will be delighted to know you care. Sincerely, Andrew L. Sutton Principal
