After holding a 30-20 lead going into the fourth quarter of the Hilliard game to lose by a score of 36-30. The season had a lot of good points. Beating Aucilla for the first time in twelve years was a big thrill. Then ending the season with a 35-26 victory over arch rival Mayo after a two year drought makes for a good winter. Seniors played an important role; Tim Bagley was the area’s third leading rusher with 562 yards on 297 carries. Tim finished his three years with over 3800 yards rushing. This is extremely well considering being 5’8” and weighing 137 lbs. Howell Bradley led the team in tackles for the second year in a row with 114 total. After a 1-5 start, the team ended up winning 8 out of the last 13 games. Our senior captain, Kelli Murphy, and coxaptain. Shannon Fralick, did a good Job of leading a relatively young team. The girls played hard and their desire to win helped them in close victories over Mayo. Hawthorne, and Trenton. In the district tournament, the Lady Bucs pulled off a first round upset of the number three seed. Ocala St. John, and with a little luck could have upset the. number two team. Cedar Key. Kelli Murphy was the leading scorer and Shannon Fralick the leading rebounder. We will miss these two seniors but are looking forward to the return of some spirited and talented underclassmen. • L to R, Tina Bracewell, Beth Burnham, Julie Drinkard, Michelle Haas, Jennifer Voorde, Shannon Fralick Co-captain, Adventur- Lillie, Kelli Murphy Captain, Brenda Juday, Samantha Smith Gink GcMcM 18 BRANFORD HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL SCHEDULE WON 7......LOST II Branford 10.. ..Mayo 9 Branford 6.. ..Hamilton County 22 Branford S.. ..Madison County 24 Branford 23.. ..Oak Hall 6 Branford 4.. . .Hawthorne 19 Branford 12.. ..Trenton 11 Branford 6.. ..Bronson 10 Branford 26. . ..Bell 8 Branford 5.. ..Hamilton County 9 Branford 11.. ..Bronson 10 Branford 9.. ..Bell 0 Branford 4.. ..Hawtnorne v Branford 4. . ..Oak Hall 19 Branford 2. . ..Maoison County 13 Branford 13.. ..Trenton 16 Branford 6.. ..Mayo 7 DISTRICT 7A SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT Branford 11.. ..Trenton 9 Branford 8.. ..Hawtnorne 19 COACH MICKEY DEMPSEY The softball year 1988 was an up and down season. As the season started attitude was great. We picked on several teams a little to powerful; for us and I think this dampened the spirit of our players. From there on we won one and lost one. At the end of the season we began a squabbling process with our players. There were too many players absent at any one game to get momentum back. In the District Tournament we had two good games. At the end of the season 1 finally came to the conclusion that 7 and 11 wasn’t to bad for a young, inexperienced team — nine 9th graders and three seventh graders were on the team. Chalk the year off as a rebuilding year and hope for better things to come. Kelli Murphy, 1 hate to see you go. It has been a pleasure coaching you and I will miss you on the team. Best of luck in the future. To the remaining 15. I will see you next year and hope for great things in the future. 1st Row - Angie Barrs. Tammy Bracewell. Trade Daniels, Kelli Murphy, Angela Barnes. How low can you go? The team played a full schedule this year after a long absence. Considering this was the first year back, I was pleased with the season. Also, because of no playing field, all games were played on the road. Tim Bagley led team in hitting with average of .394. Robbie Hodges followed with average of .382. At times we played like veterans; at times we played like rookies. Tracie Daniels led the team in scoring and rebounding. Londa Sandlin led the defense and with help from Susan Bethune, Kay Sandlin, and many subs we managed to salvage a 7 and 5 season. This year marks the end of 3 years for most of the team. It has been fun coaching you through your ups and downs. We at least have had a winning season for the past three years and that accounts for your hard work and never giving up. To the ninth graders going up to varsity next year, I hate to see you go but age never stands still. Keep up the hard work and make Ms. Morgan proud of you as you have made me. To the mighty 4,1 wish you success next year, don’t fuss to much at the running you have to do. I will truly miss not having you on the team. You were always there with your attitudes, deter- mination and smiling faces. I still owe one of you something so watch out for me one of these days. The time has come to settle scores And set the record straight! You’ve had your way for much too long, 1 now feel duty-bound To demonstrate the adage: What goes around comes around! Now, parents, if you are faint-hearted About your precious dears. Best you leave now before 1 start For I’ll not be moved by tears! Yes, faculty. I’ll nail these kids For what they put you through! If my words cut deep and make them bleed. Dear teachers, this blood’s for you! And to all of our invited guest Who may be shocked by my words, Let me assure you this class knows It’s getting better than it deserves! Class, most days you were late to school And walked the halls like you were numb, Except on days there was a test. Then you didn’t even bother to come! You’re just a bunch of party animals Who cruise and dance and play. That’s probably why there are so few of you To celebrate this day! So, Senior Class of ’88, I’ve followed you with glee To piece together this report On what each of you means to me: Your president, Tim the Athlete Possesses talent rare. But when the game is over, Kelli leads him everywhere! And there’s tiny Tammy Folsom Who looks so sweet and tame. It’s hard to believe there’s so much mouth On such a little frame! Ole Jenny Underwood, you talk so much, Never try eating peas with your knife. If you should ever cut your tongue, It would cripple you for life! Rhett Fletcher, you’re much too laid back To fit in with this bunch. The only time you get a spring in your step Is going to Grandma’s for lunch! ell, Danning, I always thought ul rust you anywhere; But you went off to Beta convention And stole the teacher's underwear! Tina Boone, one thing I’ll remember is what great big brown eyes you possess. You’ve played the trumpet for so many years — Just too much pressure, I guess! Bubba’s parents say he has a brain. And I’m trying not to doubt it. But I guess his folks are unaware He’s been leaving home without it! Love-em-and-leave-em Howell Bradley, Your effect on women’s a mystery! I know for a fact you’re a man of few words, Cause I’ve seen your tests in World History! If this student gets stranded way out at sea Caught up in a raging squall, Don’t phone, jut holler, I’ll respond: “My word! It’s Jimmy Paul!” Shannon, you’ve been a model student; You’ve walked the straight and narrow. The only fault I find with you — You’re leaving me crazy Sara! Kelli,w hen you walk to receive your diploma, I don’t want any emotion showing. ’Cause when you smile it squeezes your eyes shut, And I’m afraid you won’t see where you’re going! John Phillips, every school needs a comic Every football team needs someone with clout Every class needs an outstanding thinker Never mind, John, you just struck out! Well, Daleann, for your supreme sacrifice You really are a peach! While those naughty seniors skipped to the lake. You watched Lake City graduate at Jax Beach! Well, Roger, ole buddy, you’ve made it! And now you’re all bright-eyed and grinny. But I still think when you got your head screwed on straight! That you turned it one time too many! Carla Hawkins, if asked what you look like, To a description I couldn’t swear! One blue eye, a nostril, half a smile But the rest is covered with hair! Oh, Brett, I know you hate to go, But we’re coming right down to the wire! I hope you choose to graduate Before you have to retire Kim Lloyd, you're a little airy, We know you so well, there’s no doubt! Do you remember when you tried to speak your mind And not a word came out?? Shawn Shaughnessy ususally .wears a smile, But don’t get the wrong impression. Let it be known, when pushed too far. He’ll give you a lesson in aggression! Eddy Odom, Mr. Four-Point — Oh, A gentlemen in thought and word! Brain Bowler, Valedictorian, And you’re not even a nerd! Donna O'Steen, Miss BHS, All blond and teeth and charm, Hollywood is ready to cast you As Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm! Karl Smith, your English work Can only be described as sloppy! Why in Heaven’s name, if you wanted to pass. Did you choose Mike Simpson to copy? And speaking of ole Michael Simpson, He’s two different people, you see. One day, he’s a mind-mannered bag boy, But by night he’s Muhammed Ali! Dan Newburn, I’m not sure of your future. You don’t care if your grades are low. And from watching your moves on the ladies, That’s the only pass you seem to know! Dee Dee Whitfield, I really must tell you That your mood swings leave us freaking! You’re lovely enough to be Miss USA, I hope you win on a day that you’re speaking! Lisa George, you’ve made it! And we’ve kept the secret just between us. No one else knows you hold the record For slipping food on Mr. Tuckey’s bus! Perfect little lady, Trea Suggs, Who usually does everything right, Do your classmates a favor: Please don’t burp on Friday night! Russell Parsons, you came from Suwannee High And joined the Buccaneer crew. You fit right in with this senior class, And that doesn’t say much for you! Denita, it certainly has been easy To track your high class rating; But I’ve really had an awful time Keeping track of whom you’re dating! Wayne Brake, you always answer with a question Whenever I speak to you. When I call your name at graduation Don’t you dare say, “Wayne Who”? And, Mark, 1 thought you might not graduate Until the day you swallowed the ring. Then I decided if you could pass that, You should be able to pass anything! We’ll, that’s the wat I see you, Dear Class of Eighty-eight! But in truth my heart is heavy Now that we must separate. And if life deals you heavy blows And your minds are full of doubt. Remember that no note from mom Is going to bail you out. You’ll be all right out on your own. To this I can attest; Cause you are Branford graduates, And that makes you the best!
