Many of these dreams have been realized; some have not. We feel this year has been one of accomplishment. It has also been one of learning to compromise and one of trying to find the words which would better express the meaning we would like our book to have. We have tried to use new and original ideas to create an annual you would be proud to own. We hope you notice the new addition of sixteen pages. We would also like to thank every- one who made this annual possible. We would like to thank the Beta Club especially for their donation. This yearbook has attempted to por- tray in pictures and words your lives as you have lived them this year. If a student can place himself in a scene and if the actions by students and teachers are correctly pictured, the yearbook has succeeded. We hope you feel the twenty-fifth Buccaneer has succeeded at least as well as the volumes that have gone before. LYNDA DRU LYNCH 1969 BUCCANEER EDITOR 5 WEIL0 70 A BUILDING Branford High School was established forty years ago by consolidating several small schools. Many years and numerous students later, the once crowded halls are now silent. Today, after years of hope and hard work, a dream is realized. This year students returned to the new world of Branford High School; halls that were wide and properly lighted, air-conditioning, an auditorium, new educational facilities, and a roof that didn’t leak. Our new building has been useful not only for school business but for social functions also. We feel that it will become important not only to the youth that frequent its halls but to the Branford community as a whole. fu KBNNV FLETCf-fBR' 1950-1968 f K AAJHtfyvLCMw BOB VAN ORM 1947-1968 4 Pobfiftv U t . QpesSOA L Bo xtuglit One of the most outstanding and unique features in the United States is our public school system. Every child is guaranteed an equal opportunity for formal education. In most instances, education is left to the state and local government. By doing this, an educational system suitable to the local situation can be developed. In contrast, education in most other countries is controlled by the central govern- ment and does not leave such authority to the state or local government. We urge each of you to take advantage of the educational opportunities being offered and remain in school until you graduate. Education helps make better citizens, and the better citizen you are, the stronger America will be. The Administrative Staff Suwannee County Schools 10 SCHOOL BOARD L. C. DAVIS, JR. Somewhere between the innocence of babyhood and the cultured character of a dignified adult, we find an unfor- gettable creature known as 'the High School Student’. High School Students come in assorted sizes, ages, weights and colors, but all have the same creed: To enjoy every hour of every day of every year; to delay doing homework and term papers; to spend money ex- travagantly; and to complain inces- santly. 61 CAWFUQ UFE. These students are found everywhere - on school grounds and off, at the Jiffy or Little River; in Live Oak or Lake City; at football and basketball games; in the Prin- cipal's office; and occasionally in the class- room. A High School Student is a composite rep- resenting both sexes ... he has the energy of a pocket size atomic bomb; the fault finding ability of a professional tax payer; the curi- osity of a cat; the irresponsibility of an over- night guest; the lungs of a dictator; the friend- liness of a salesman; and the enthusiasm of an evangelist. 62 Nobody else can eat as much, date as much, cram as much, sleep as much, talk as much, and still enjoy life as much. Nobody else is quite so attentive, yet so unaware of it all. This Student likes cars, parties, skip days, weekend nips, dates, comic books, football games, and dances. And after all this - mothers love them, fathers finance them, administrators worry about them. 63 Teachers ignore them, local police tolerate them and of course Heaven protects them. A High School Student is a magical creature - you can lock him outside your home, but you can't lock him out of your heart. You can overlook his presence, but you can't get him out of your mind. And just when you've lost all hope, he mumbles, Mom, Dad - I made all A's this term. 64 ELEMENTARY Barbara Bass U t$. This provides the students and teachers with an efficient means of communication. It is comprised of two elected representatives from each class and organization, and an annually elected President, Vice-President, and Secretary-Treasurer. The Student Council has sponsored such activities as Homecoming, Shorts Day, White Christmas, Clean- Up Day, Student Elections, and many dances throughout the year. It also sent delegates to District and State Conventions, and ran the concession stands during foot- ball and basketball seasons. At the close of the school year, new officers were elected by the student body. The officers for 1969- 1970 are: President - Christy Howell, Vice-President - Donna Rhoden, and Secretary-Treasurer - Mevelyn Land. 88 fdittlj CjOWIjM 1st ROW: Mike Mclnnis, Paul McCall, Kitty Connell, Robert McRae, Sponsor. 2nd ROW: Elaine McCall, Lynda Lynch, Elecia Corbin. 3rd ROW: Kay Walker, Kathy Fletcher, Cynthia Cheney, Charlene Lewis, Tina Barnett. 4th ROW: Dale Suggs, Anita Wilkerson, Shonnie Martin, Lilah Beardsley. 5th ROW; Russell Barrs, Gary Hawkins, Joe Sampson, Cliff Bradley, Jerrold Fletcher.
