Cregg Moses President The Student Council is an organization of the students, for the students and by the students of Branford High School. It is the law making body of the Student Government and is composed of each class president of grades seven through twelve: also it has a represent- ative from all major organizations of the school. This school year the Student Council has sponsored a homecoming, a dixie-doodle stand, the annual, and also a drive for warm up jackets and trousers for the boys'basketball team. Student Government was introduced into B. H. S. in 1940-41 but was not established permanently until 1943-44 and it is based on a constitution written and adopted by the students. HOME ECONOMICS The Home Economics Department, under the supervision of Mrs. Lula Mae Allen, is a modern efficient unit in which classes in clothing, child care, nutrition, and all phases of home making are stressed. The girls get actual training in serving at such social events as the Junior-Senior Banquet, F. F. A. Banquet, Basketball Banquet, P. T. A. Meetings, and Women's Club Meetings. The Future Farmers of America is a national organi- zation for boys studying Vocational Agriculture in Sec- ondary Schools. The Branford Chapter has undertaken many projects this year; the most important, however, is the purchasing of a' new tractor and equipment for use on the farm plot. FARMERS H. The stucjents of Branford High School have for a good many years had the advantage of private music lessons under Mrs. Ernest Witherell, a graduate from the Peoria Conservatory of Music. The students perform in many musical programs during the school year, however, the climax is reached with the presentation of their An- nuaf Recital near the end of the School term. boys The boys'basketball team under the direction of Coach Lloyd L. Williams realized one of its most successful sea- sons. The boys did not win a cup this year but proved their metal by only tasting defeat two times at the hands of a class C team. The boys were well known for their great defense which kept the opponent's score usually below 20 points.
